she k n i t t e d for the seamen and sweaters; made q u i l t s ; donated c l o t h ing
and hemmed diapers for U. S. G. She took part i n s k i t s and three
act plays which were part of the e a r l y l o c a l entertainment.
The " Bamill School" was b u i l t on land donated by her parents.
When the schools became consolidated Florence became an active member
of the " Home and School Association". In 1959 there was a need for
b e t t e r school l i b r a r y f a c i l i t i e s . Florence was a member of the L i b r a ry
Board from i t s i n c e p t i o n u n t i l I9? I when the school and the - books were
moved. To r a i s e money f o r the L i b r a r y the Board contracted to r e p a ir
over 1000 text books f o r the Sturgeon School Board. She s t i l l looks
a f t e r the l i b r a r y books now located at the l o c a l C u r l i n g Rink.
Florence's family are pioneer members of the Independence Church
s t a r t e d i n 1913* She i s a very active member of the church having
served as Sunday School teacher and l a t e r served as Superintendent.
She i s also an active member of the Alcomdale Community League. She i s
p r e s e n t l y compiling a H i s t o r y of the " Independence & Alcomdale D i s t r
i c t s " from s t o r i e s and reports turned i n to her.
During these years her home and family were not neglected. She and
her husband Archie raised a family of 9 children, which includes two
sets of twins. Their c h i l d r e n a l l completed High School with some going
on to f u r t h e r t h e i r education. A l l are now married and have f a m i l i e s of
t h e i r own to which Florence i s a dedicated and l o v i n g Grandmother.
With a l l t h i s service to her c r e d i t and i n a p p r e c i a t i o n of her
devoted and f a i t h f u l service f o r " Home and Community" the Independence
W. I. presented Florence with a L i f e Membership on the Branch" 60th
Anniversary.
