Stony P l a i n where f o r f o r t y - f i v e years they were both active
i n the l i f e of the d i s t r i c t . Mrs. Oatway helped with the
choir work and was organist i n the Methodist Church, now the
United Church.
When the Stony P l a i n Branch of the Women's Institute
was organized i n 1913, Mrs. Oatway was one of the Charter Members.
During World War 1 Red Cross work and r a i s i n g money f o r
the P a t r i o t i c Fund took up most of the attention of branch
members. Mrs. Oatway opened her large home f o r any community
gathering, whether f o r making q u i l t s , Red Cross sewing, young
people's parties and other s o c i a l a f f a i r s.
Down through the years, Mrs. Oatway held many offices
i n the Stony P l a i n W. I. She was Vice- President and had to be
active i n that position as the President was often absent on
other work. She was also President and Secretary- Treasurer
f o r some years. At the gathering held on the 40th Anniversary
of the Stony P l a i n W. I., Mrs. Oatway was presented with the
A. W. I. Membership by her fellow members of the branch.
Mrs. Oatway began a c i r c u l a t i n g l i b r a r y which grew into
the present fine Community l i b r a r y . Dr. and Mrs. Oatway have
two sons and a daughter.
The Motto " For Home and Country" was always uppermost
i n Mrs. Oatway's mind i n r a i s i n g her family and i n helping a ll
who l i v e d near her. She now resides i n Edmonton.
