MRS. KATHRYN L. HABBERFIELD
Kathryn Leslie Habberfield was born i n Calgary, October 4, 1922. Her parents
nationality was American- Canadian, and her father, Roy Leslie Snider, could trace
his ancestry back to the United Empire Loyalists. Kathryn grew up on a sheep ranch
at Alderson, Alberta, 15 miles north of Medicine Hat. Her early education was i n a
one room school, she continued at Mount Royal College, Calgary, and graduated from
Calgary Normal School. Kathryn taught i n one room rural Alberta schools for three
years.
She married Gordon Habberfield i n August 1945 and they farmed i n the Airdrie
area for 2^ years. In 1948 they moved to Langdon to the Snider family farm which
had been settled by the A. Snider family who moved there from Colorado i n 1909.
At that time i t was t o t a l l y grassland and was broken, fenced and b u i l t up by the
family. Gordon and Kathryn did mixed farming including a cow- calf and feed- lot
operation, as well as farming three sections of land. They raised two daughters.
