MRS. S. LEFSRUD
Mrs. S. Lefsrud was born Jennie Ness, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Ness, i n Minneapolis, Minn. January 17 »
1904. When about three months old she was brought by her
parents to Alberta where they settled on a homestead i n the
Ryley d i s t r i c t . She attended Ryley school and spent two
years i n the Qamrose Lutheran College. Later she took
nurse's t r a i n i n g at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton,
graduating as a Gold Medalist i n 1925. After graduation
she was Maternity Supervisor at Cmrose h o s p i t a l and at Medi
c i n e Hat General Hospital was Night Supervisor.
Jennie Ness and Sigard Lefsrud were married July 20,
1927 and took up residence i n Viking where Mr. Lefsrud pract
i c e s law. They have two sons: John who i s a doctor; and
E r i c , a lawyer. There are two grandsons.
Mrs. Lefsrud joined the Viking Women's I n s t i t u te
shortly after her a r r i v a l i n town and held the o f f i c e of President
on three different occasions. She was Director of Dist
r i c t 2 f o r four years; was Vice- President for four years
and was elected P r o v i n c i a l President of the -^ lberta Women's
Institutes i n 1953, r e t i r i n g i n 1955 mainly for health reasons.
Being musical and possessing a good voice, Mrs. Lefsrud
was instrumental i n s t a r t i n g the A. W. I. Choirs. She has a
large piano class and conducts the Lutheran Choir of which
Church she i s a member. She i s a c t i v e l y interested i n o i l
painting and has won prizes f o r her o i l s . Mrs. Lefsrud i s
also an excellent needlewoman.
Mrs. Lefsrud has a winning smile, a quiet and unassuming
manner and i s loved by her fellow workers. She i s generous
with her praise of a task well done and i s slow to c r i t i
c i z e an error - q u a l i t i e s that endeared her to her Council
during the two years of her P r e s i d e n t i a l term of o f f i c e . She
has given unsparingly of her time and talents to many public
