Mrs. William P o l l a c k.
Mrs. ' William P o l l a c k was born Grade Edna Myrel Adair i n the
Garrington D i s t r i c t near Olds, A l b e r t a , on October 27th, 1907.
Her parents, Samuel and G r a d e Adair, were of I r i s h descent.
She attended the Berrydale school, and helped at home on the
farm u n t i l she met and married William P o l l a c k.
In A p r i l 1930, the newlyweds came t o t h e i r homestead Eorth
of E n i l d a , i n the B i g Meadow D i s t r i c t . Here t h e i r f i v e c h i l d ren
were born. Mrs. Eloyd W i l l s e y ( Dorothy) resides on the
home farm. Mrs. A l v i n Eishbuck ( Jean), and Mrs. Vern Eessel
( Doreen) l i v e i n Edmonton. Miss Eunice Pollack, R. h. i s nursing
i n S e a t t l e , Washington, and Dwayne i s at home, taking grade
nine i n High P r a i r i e . Dorothy i s the only one so f a r , to bless
Mrs. Pollack w i t h grandchildren. She has three, a boy and two
g i r l s .
A month a f t e r Mrs. P o l l a c k a r r i v e d i n the B i g Meadow D i s t r i ct
she, along with three others joined the Women's I n s t i t u t e , at a
meeting held i n Grouard. Mrs. P o l l a c k served as President i n
1934. 1935, and i n 1952. She was the Secretary- Treasurer f o r
s i x years. She a l s o supervised the B i g Meadow G i r l ' s Club f o r
a number of years.
Mrs. Pollack hud learned the a r t of q u i l t making i n her parental
home, and was instrumental i n g e t t i n g the I n s t i t u t e members
started at q u i l t making. This" is s t i l l a handicraft mush
enjoyed to- day. Mrs. P o l l a c k has been an outstanding member,
always w i l l i n g and pleasant to work with.
I n 1956, she took a carload of I n s t i t u t e members t o Eairview
to meet and hear Mrs. Berry, from A u s t r a l i a , who was President
of the Associated Country Women of the World, at the time.
