Dora has always been a c t i v e l y engaged i n community work. Since
1921 she has been a member of the Grand Meadow Local of the Women o f
Unifarm. She was secretary of t h i s l o c a l for a t o t a l of seventeen
years, an important p o s i t i o n as the Grand Meadow l a d i e s have made
immeasureable contributions to Ponoka and the community west of town.
Dora has been a f a i t h f u l member of the United Church both on
the Dakota Mission F i e l d and i n Ponoka, and has been a valuable
member of the U. C. W.
For the past number o f years she has been an ardent and
e n t h u s i a s t i c bowler with Ponoka* s Senior C i t i z e n s.
When the Ferrybank Branch of the A l b e r t a Women's I n s t i t u t e s was f or
formed i n 19^ 6, Dora became a charter member. She was the branch's
f i r s t treasurer, and f o r twenty years acted as Branch representative
to the Ponoka General H o s p i t a l A u x i l i a r y . She has attended many A. W. I,
conventions and conferences. Her knowledge and expertise as a q u i lt
maker have been a great asset to the branch. She i s a loved and
respected member of A. W. I, and the community. In r e c o g n i t i o n and
a p p r e c i a t i o n of her s e r v i c e s and her c o n t r i b u t i o n s to the community
around Ponoka i n general and Ferrybank W. I. i n p a r t i c u l a r the Ferry-
Bank W. I. presented her w i t h a L i f e Membership at t h e i r September m
meeting on her e i g h t i e t h birthday.
Her home has always been a gathering point f o r r e l a t i v e s and
f r i e n d s , and now at the age of eighty she continues to be a c t i v e i n
Unifarm, church and A. W. I.
