Mrs. J . R. Jackson was l i v i n g i n the l i t t l e v i l l a ge
of M i l h u r n , Northumberland, when Mrs. A l f r e d Watt, O. B. E.
came to the place t o organize a branch o f the Women's I n s t i
t u t e . She does not r e c a l l the exact date, but Mrs. Jackson
became a member.
In 1926 Mrs. Jackson l e f t her n a t i v e home and journeyed
w i t h her f a m i l y to A l b e r t a . She j o i n e d the D. E. L. I n s t i t u te
and has h e l d every o f f i c e i n the branch, a c t i n g as p r e s i d e nt
f o r ten y e a r s . Her Standing Committee- papers have been one o f
the h i g h l i g h t s o f the Conferences. Her L i f e Membership p i n
was presented to her at the Constituency Conference June 27, 1957
by D. E. L. Women's I n s t i t u t e.
Mrs. Jackson i s the mother of seven c h i l d r e n , twenty grandc
h i l d r e n and three great- grandchilnren. She has always been a
keen h a n d i c r a f t worker, p a r t i c u l a r l y rugs and q u i l t s . Although
past eighty she has taken the most points i n l o c a l h a n d i c r a ft
e x h i b i t s.
