MRS. F. A. DAHMS
Maude E s t e l l a Wybert was born October 10, 1889, at
F o r t Dodge, Iowa. Her f a t h e r was W i l l i a m Wybert of E n g l i sh
descent and. her mother was Martha M i t c h e l l of I r i s h descent.
They moved t o Moberly, M i s s o u r i , i n 1895 where Maude
attended school. In 1907 the f a m i l y moved t o Canada t o make
t h e i r home four miles north- east of Wetaskiwin and she comp
l e t e d her s c h o o l i n g at the Wetaskiwin High School.
She married Frank A. Dahms on J u l y 6, 1914, and they
farmed s i x m i l e s north of Wetaskiwin i n the Wang d i s t r i c t f o r
45 years. They had a f a m i l y of f i v e hoys and two g i r l s . Three
boys were i n the Armed Forces during the Second War and one
was k i l l e d i n 1942. There are seventeen grandchildren and
three great- grandchildren.
Mrs. Dahms was a Charter Member when Vang was formed
May 14, 1947. She served as D i r e c t o r from 1947 to 1959 and from
1952 to 1954; as V i c e - P r e s i d e n t i n 1950 and President i n 1951.
She belonged t o Vang Ladies' Aid u n t i l the Wang W. I. was formed.
The Wang V. I. presented Mrs. Daiiris with a L i f e Membership
i n June 1962 with another Charter Member making the p r e s e n t a t i o n.
At the age of 73 she i s s t i l l an a c t i v e member although she now
r e s i d e s i n Wetaskiwin which means a long drive t o the meetings.
She has been a f a i t h f u l member and always ready t o help w i t h community
p r o j e c t s or i n time of sickness. She belongs t o the
Moose Lodge now since she l i v e s i n town and attends the F r i e n d s h ip
( \ Club a c t i v i t i e s . One of her hobbies i s doing embroidery work.
