I1I13. JAMES WORE ALL
A l f r e d a Angeline Wood, eldest daughter of David
Vincent Vood and Maud Mabel ( Cram) Wood, was born at
S h e f f i e l d , Vermont, U. S. A., on March 2, 1900. She attended
school i n Pawtucket, Rhode Island, u n t i l moving to Calgary
i n December 1913.
F o l l o w i n g f u r t h e r education i n Calgary, she was
employed by the Great North Vestern Railway Telegraph o f f i c e,
which l a t e r became the Canadian Northern Railway o f f i c e . She
was also employed i n department stores i n ^ algary, i n c l u d i ng
the Hudson's Bay where she worked i n the Audit o f f i c e . This
was pleasant work, but being shut i n a l l day had i t s s m a l l i r r i t
a t i o n s , so i n 1923 she decided to see how people l i v e d and
worked on A l b e r t a farms, and obtained work near a brother at
Didsbury. Working on a second farm was followed by a few months
