Mrs. Eord had been s e c r e t a r y o f the h i s t o r y committee throughout the years of r e s e a r c h and w r i t i n g. Mrs. Walter Eord, nee V i r g i n i a Gow, comes of S c o t t i s h - E n g l i s h descent. She i s the seventh c h i l d of Le Roy and E l o ra Gow who were a pioneer couple of the Winnifred, A l b e r t a , d i s t r i c t . She attended a r u r a l school, Newdale, f o r both her p u b l i c and h i g h school education and graduated from Calgary Normal i n 1924. She l a t e r attended A l b e r t a College i n Edmonton and many summer sessions o f the U n i v e r s i t y o f A l b e r t a during the years that she taught i n the schools o f the province - a t o t a l of f i f t e e n years of teaching. Mrs. Eord i s an a c t i v e member o f the Coutts United Church and a Past Matron of I r i s Chapter, Order of the E a s t e r n Star. Her hobby i s h i s t o r y , whether i t i s r e a d i n g i t , w r i t i n g l o c al events o r compiling the r e c o r d o f some o f the members of the Women's I n s t i t u t e s of A l b e r t a who have been honored with a l i f e membership. I n r e c o g n i t i o n o f her e f f o r t s , Sunshine V/ omen's I n s t i t u te presented her w i t h a L i f e Membership i n March 1958, the presenta t i o n being made at the banquet of D i s t r i c t 4 Conference by a dear f r i e n d and co- worker i n the branch, Mrs. C l i f f o r d Peterson. Mrs. Eord served as P r o v i n c i a l President of the A l b e r ta Women's I n s t i t u t e s from May 1959 t o May 1961.
