When the r i g h t man asked her t o marry him, E s t h e r decided
she had b e t t e r l e a r n housewifery, so took a year i n Home Economics
at Oregon State College a t C o r v a l l i s . Linval Rash was a High
School classmate and she came to Canada to marry him a t Lethbridge
August 20, 1912. They homesteaded south o f Purple Springs where
they have resided s i n c e . They had one daughter and f o u r sons.
She became an a c t i v e member o f a community club which d i s banded
t o form the K i n n i b u r g h V/ omen's I n s t i t u t e i n 1918. Mrs. Rogers
came t o organize i t . Mrs. Rash served many years as President and
D i r e c t o r as w e l l as v a r i o u s Standing Committee Chairmanships. She
was the f i r s t Supervisor o f Kinniburgh Sunshine G i r l s ' Club, holding
t h i s p o s i t i o n f o r s i x or seven years. She was Constituency Convener
f o r f o u r years p r i o r to the d i v i s i o n of the Constituency into
North and South Taber. She was Constituency Chairman o f U n i t e d Nations
f o r f o u r years and has h e l d t h i s chairmanship i n the branch
since 1951.
The Kinniburgh School was b u i l t i n 1919 on the South- west corner
o f Rash land which was purchased by the f i r s t School Board.
School was h e l d i n the a t t i c of Mrs. Rash's home f o r seven weeks
u n t i l the schoolhouse was completed. ' The c h i l d r e n never woke the
baby once'.
Mrs. Rash was p a r t i a l l y r e s p o n s i b l e f o r forming an Union Sunday
School with a l l denominations p a r t i c i p a t i n g . She has been active
i n the work o f the Church o f C h r i s t a l l h er l i f e .
She organized and was President o f the P u r p l e Springs School
P a i r A s s o c i a t i o n f o r many years.
When Kinniburgh Women's I n s t i t u t e presented Mrs. Rash w i t h a
L i f e Membership on October 9, 1963, they f e l t she t r u l y deserved
t h i s honor as ' i n s h o r t , she i s an ardent worker f o r Home and
Country'.
