MRS. FREDERICK G. McLAUGHLIN
Mrs. F. G. McLaughlin coraes of a long l i n e of Scottish
Canadians. She was horn Katherine Armstrong at Ash Grove Farm
i n Markham, Ontario. Here she received her public and high
school education and attended St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
and Sunday School.
In A p r i l 1900 she came West to j o i n her father and brothers
on t h e i r ranch at Twin Lakes, Assa. Northwest T e r r i t o r i es
i n the Cypress H i l l s . In 1908 she and Frederick McLaughlin were
married and she went to l i v e at t h e i r ranch at Elkwater Lake.
In 1912 the McLaughlins moved to Irvine, Alberta, where they s t i l l
reside.
When the Irvine Women's Institute was organized i n 1921,
she was one of the Charter Members and became the f i r s t secretary,
a position she has held most of the time since. The people
of Irvine associate Mrs. McLaughlin with the work of the Women's
I n s t i t u t e as she was one of the very few who helped to maintain
the branch during the depression years. She has held the o f f i ce
of branch convener of Citizenship for most of the l i f e of the
l o c a l organization.
