MRS. W. Gf. N. JOHNSTON
Mrs. Johnston was given a L i f e Membership i n the
Alberta Women's Institutes i n June 1952, the ninth member
to be so honored. She writes modestly of the event as follows:
" Peace River Women's Institute presented me with my
L i f e Membership, f o r reasons that I do not know, but i t was a
very happy occasion f o r me.
I was born Plorence Gertrude Banbury i n Racine, Wisconsin,
on December 19, 1884. Two years l a t e r my parents, Nellie
and Edwin Banbury, returned to th-^ ir native Ontario. I attended
school i n Toronto and i n Aurora, Ontario. In 1907 I married
Walter George Norman Johnston of Aurora and that same year we
came to Claresholm, Alberta, where we l i v e d for the next f i v e and
one half years. Later we moved to Edmonton f o r a period of t h i r teen
years an^ following that we l i v e d i n Jasper. It was here
