She held the o f f i c e of Chairman of the Stony P l a i n Consolidated
School Board for ten years. In 1940 Mrs. Wood was
elected to the Alberta Legislature representing Stony Plain
Constituency; a seat which she held f o r four successive terms
thus establishing a record f o r any woman i n Alberta. She has
also served as Mayor of the town of Stony P l a i n and has been
Chairman of the Library Board since i t s foundation. Mrs. Wood
i s a hard worker i n any endeavor undertaken.
The time spent i n i n s t i t u t e work i s of great s a t i s faction
to her and she i s often called upon by her Constituency,
D i s t r i c t , or by the Council of the Alberta Women's
Institutes to perform some task on very short notice. She
w i l l be remembered by the average member f o r her contribution
to ' Home and Country' known as ' Random Thoughts of This and
That' and f o r the capable manner i n which she chairs the resolutions
committee at the P r o v i n c i a l Conventions. Mrs. Wood
was chosen by her D i s t r i c t to act as one of t h e i r representatives
at the National Convention of the Federated Women's
Institutes of Canada i n Ottawa, October 1957.
