I was widowed i n I963 and once again my l i f e changed dramatically.
Taking on the job as Secretary - Treasurer for the v i l l a g e was i n deed
a challenge. I worked there u n t i l my retirement. I received a
C e r t i f i c a t e of Appreciation from the A. U. M. A. for twelve years of
f a i t h f u l service.
Having a large home I was asked to take boarders, mostly teachers
which I did. It has been exciting and interesting to meet a l l these
people - many from other lands, but a l l very nice and we learned
much from each other.
My interests i n community has not waned. I s t i l l work for the
Red Cross, the United Church, the Agriculture Society and have been
Manager of the Farmer's Market for eleven years. I was Editor of the
l o c a l history book " The Lantern Era".
During my years as an Alberta Women's Institute member I served
as Constituency Convener and D i s t r i c t Director. In 1985 my Constituency
presented me with the highest of honors, a L i f e Membership i n
the Alberta Women's Institute.
Other awards I have received include a Red Cross Badge of Service
i n 1982; a " 30 Years of Service Pin" from my W. I. Branch i n 1982
a " Citizen of the Year" award from the Agricultural Society i n 1982
and a L i f e Membership i n the United Church Women of Canada i n 1985.
