MRS. STEPHEN WIEDEMAN
Maria Wiedeman i s a native of Baden, Germany,
where she received her early education. After spending
some time i n Prance she came to the United States where
she was engaged as a governess. She came to Canada i n
1916 and was married i n Medicine Hat to Stephen V/ iedeman
who was formerly with the R. C. M. P.
She has been a member of Irvine Women's Insti
t u t e since i t s formation i n 1921 and has served the
branch as President for ten years. She was also active
i n the Red Cross taking a leading part i n i t s operation
when she was leader of the work committee. She has also
served on the Irvine School Board and was very active i n
the organization of the larger school d i v i s i o n.
Mrs. V/ iedeman v/ as one of the f i r s t members to
be awarded a L i f e Membership i n the Alberta Women's i n s t i
t u t e s . The honor was conferred by her branch, Irvine,
