Mrs. Selby E. Thome was born Helen May Mead at B l a i r , Nebraska,
U. S. A. Her Father, Prank E. Mead, was of E n g l i s h descent
and her Mother, Laura May Mehrens of German descent.
The family, s i x boys and two g i r l s , moved t o Canada and s e t t l ed
at Campbell Lake i n the V e r m i l i o n d i s t r i c t i n 1910. Helen went t o
school a t Campbell Lake and l a t e r graduated from the V e r m i l i on
School o f A g r i c u l t u r e.
She met Selby Edward Thorne a t the V e r m i l i o n School of A g r i c u
l t u r e and they were married i n 1921 a f t e r he had returned from
Overseas duty. They l i v e d on a farm i n the F o r t Saskatchewan dist
r i c t f o r eight years, then moved t o the town of Fort Saskatchewan
where they s t i l l r e s i d e . They had three c h i l d r e n : Robert A.; Beth E.
and Selby M. F/ 0 Robert Thorne was k i l l e d while serving w i t h the
