Edith Mary Pish was born i n Birmingham, England i n 1887 » where upon completing her education she taught cookery and laundry work i n a g i r l ' s school i n Norwich. She married George Thurston, a widower with two small sons, i n 1 9 0 9. Two more sons were born before the Thurstons moved to Canada in 1913t s e t t l i n g near Nightingale. Mrs. Thurston was present i n 1915 when Mary Mclsaac came and organized the f i r s t W. I. i n N i g h t i n g a l e , making her a Charter Member. She served as D i r e c t o r of the Entertainment Committee since she was a t r a i n e d p i a n i s t and v o c a l i s t and her t a l e n ts were f r e e l y given to help t i l t h every community a c t i v i t y. Another son and two daughters were born before the family moved to Alderson i n 1927 where they l i v e d u n t i l 1932. Upon r e t u r n i n g to N i g h t i n g a l e , Mrs. Thurston r e j o i n e d W. I i and was A g r i c u l t u r e and Education Convenor i n turn. She was President i n 19^ 0- 41 and Constituency Convener i n 19^ 3- 44. Mrs. Thurston joined Calgary W. II when the family moved there i n 19^ 6. She was P r o v i n c i a l Convenor of C i t i z e n s h i p i n 19^ 7 and President of Calgary W. I. from 19^ 9 t o 1 9 5 2 . Since Mr. Thurston's death i n I 9 6 I Mrs. Thurston s t i l l l i v e s i n her own home, i s a c t i v e i n her church work, s t i l l loves to play the piano and s i n g , and does many b e a u t i f ul prize- winning pieces of needlework. Nightingal W. I . i s proud to have t h i s wonderful lady as a member and she continues to serve her " Home and Country" through A. W. I.
