Society, as well- as being recognized as the l e a d i n g group
of r u r a l women both i n e d u c a t i o n a l matters and w e l f a r e .
Not a l l h e r time was given t o the Women's I n s t i t u t e,
she was an ardent church supporter and served on the Board
of Chalmers Church, Penhold, and h e l d o f f i c e s i n the Women's
A u x i l i a r y and the M i s s i o n a r y Society. She has been a keen
member of the Home and School and of the l o c a l L i b r a r y Board.
At the end o f her term of o f f i c e as P r e s i d e n t o f the
A l b e r t a Women's I n s t i t u t e s , this a c t i v e woman was not content
to lead a r e t i r i n g l i f e so she turned t o t e a c h i n g - a d e c i s i on
that stood her i n good stead a f t e r the death of her husband.
The A l b e r t a Women's I n s t i t u t e L i f e Membership came into
being through Mrs. McG- orman's e f f o r t s during her term as Prov
i n c i a l P r e s i d e n t . Her own L i f e Membership was given t o her
by her home Constituency of Red Deer Centre on June 20, 1959 >
w i t h the p r e s e n t a t i o n being made by Mrs. L. D. Smith who had
served w i t h Mrs. McGorman so many years on the C o u n c i l . A
host of f r i e n d s and former subordinate o f f i c e r s were present
at the time t o r e j o i c e i n h er w e l l deserved r e c o g n i t i o n.
I t was indeed a f o r t u n a t e day f o r A l b e r t a when l i t t l e
E t h e l Wilson was brought to that pioneer farm by her parents
at the t u r n o f the century.
