To b r i n g the swimming p r o j e c t to a c l o s e , mothers and c h i l d r en enjoyed l u n c h w i t h c o f f e e and c o o l - a i d . Mrs. J. Warke was presented w i t h a cup and saucer i n r e c o g n i t i o n of her work as s e c r e t a r y and t r e a s u r e r. Submitted by E. Marion Brown H a n d i c r a f t Tea: This Year's H a n d i c r a f t Tea was held May1, 1964 a t the Masonic H a l l . The tea was convened i n the lower p a r t w h i l e h a n d i c r a ft a r t i c l e s were d i s p l a y e d on both lower and upper f l o o r s . This year's methods of d i s p l a y i n g the a r t i c l e s was by f a r the best y e t , many of which were under g l a s s to keep them c l e a n . Our W. I. entered 14 a r t i c l e s and r e c e i v e d awards as f o l l o w s : 5 - f i r s t p r i z e s , 4 - second p r i z e s , 1 - t h i r d p r i z e and 2 a r t i c l es not l a b e l l e d p r o p e r l y. Submitted by Beth Smith H a n d i c r a f t Convener 1964- 65 F. U. A. Teas: P i n e Lake W. I. catered to two F. U. A. meetings i n A p r i l and August. Pie and c o f f e e were served at 250 per s e r v i n g . ( Net 418.10) The f o l l o w i n g exerpt was placed i n the Home & Country Magazine: " The o l d e s t member o f P. L. W. I., Mrs. Roger P i e r c e , and her husband c e l e b r a t ed t h e i r 68th wedding a n n i v e r s a r y on Jan. 26. Mr. P i e r c e w i l l be 92 on J u l y 25 and Mrs. P i e r c e 91 on Oct. 26. Mr. P i e r c e i s s t i l l a c t i v e w i t h h i s gardening, p a r t i c u l a r i l y h i s rose garden. They s t i l l r e s i d e i n the house they b u i l t i n , 1906." Almey Crabapple Tree: Mrs. R. Brown moved t h a t the Pine Lake W. I. purchase an Almey crabapple t r e e and p l a n t i t i n the t r i a n g u l a r p a t c h of l a n d formed by the convergence of two d i s t r i c t roads at the n o r t h end of Pine Lake. The t r e e was purchased, p e r m i s s i o n was granted from owner of the land f o r p l a n t i n g and a f t e r much back b r e a k i n g t o i l by men and women, an u n s i g h t ly c o r n e r was transformed i n t o a spot of beauty. ( See scrapbook) Mrs. B. Scammel of the Red Deer Advocate asked that our W. I. group c o n t r i b u t e r e c d i p e s f o r a supplement to be produced by t h i s paper. The s e c r e t a r y c o l l e c t e d these and mailed them to Mrs. Scammel. Red Deer C e n t r e C o n s t i t u e n c y Conference June 11, 1964: Mrs. R. Brown, Mrs. R. C l u t t o n and Mrs. J . Warke a t t e n d e d the annual conference i n Red Deer. The day- long conference proved i n t e r e s t i n g and s t i m u l a t i n g and one o f good f e l l o w s h i p . A l l branches are working hard and making r e a l c o n t r i b u t i o ns t o t h e i r communities as w e l l as a i d i n g i n the world problems of poverty and s t a r v a t i o n . The group p r e s e n t a t i o n by the s t a n d i n g committees was i n f o r m a t i v e. Of s p e c i a l i n t e r e s t t o us was Mrs. C l u t t o n ' s A g r i c u l t u r a l r e p o r t and the emphasis o f a c e n t e n n i a l p r o j e c t . D i s p l a y s of n o r t h e r n h a n d i c r a f t , p a i n t i n g , l a p i d a r y, programs, penpal i t e m s , e t c . gave the conference added i n t e r e s t . S u r p r i s e p r i z es t o youngest member, o l d e s t member, to member whose husband had o f f e r e d to do d i s h e s , e t c . added a s p e c i a l spark. Mrs. E t h e l M o r r i s r o e i s to be c o n g r a t u l a t e d as Constituency Convener i n making the f o u r t e e n branches such a workable u n i t. Submitted by E. Marion Brown Bake C o n t e s t : P. L. W. I, sponsored a bake c o n t e s t on Nov. 13 a t the Hub. Howell's Lake L a d i e s ' Club, G l e n e l l e n L a d i e s ' Club, l i n e Lake L a d i e s 1 G u i l d and Pine Lake Community H a l l Board each sponsored a s e c t i on which c r e a t e d a g r e a t deal more i n t e r e s t . A s p e c i a l p r i z e was to be given t o the c l u b t h a t gleaned the most p o i n t s w i t h P. L. W. I, b e i n g the winner. M i s s B e t t i e Davies judged the a r t i c l e s.
