I Pine Lake WI marks anniversary I PINE LAKE - The WI cele-ibrated its 16th birthday at an j April meeting held in the home of Mrs. Eric Pierce, with 14 I members attending. A birthday cake was made and decorated by Mrs. Garry Kleppcr to celebrate the occasion. It was decided to cancel family swimming night until fur-: thcr notice since participation was down. A new member, Mrs. Donald Scott was welcomed. Mrs. Dennis Buckler was chosen as delegate for the conference in Camrose. Scott and Mrs. David Pope reported on their visit to the conference in Camrose. Mrs. Roy Clutton gave a progress report on the swimming lessons sponsored by the WI. A report was given by Mrs. Robert Lawrence concerning the annual coffee party. Mrs. David Smith repurted that ZA articles had been entered from the group at the annual handicraft tea in Red Deer. j t j Mrs. Swain Swainson reported j on the 17th biennial conference of district 3, held in Camrose I May 8- 10. which was attended by j 45 members and over 100 visi- tg jB] tors. District 3 is made up of; i nine constituencies with 900 members. Mrs. H. Hillabry otm Camrose is the director. WI CONFERENCES WELL- ATTENDED Dr. Tom Parkinson, Mrs. Harold HiBatiy and Mrs. James T. Morrisroe were featured speakers at the June Women's Institute constituency conference held in the Knox Prebyterian Church hail. Dr. Parkinson spoke to members on the value of wearing Medic- Alert bracelets. Mrs. Hil-laby \> f Camrose, district three oUrector, told the 60 delegates present of the fringe benefits WI membership brings. Provincial vice- president Mrs. Morrisroe urged all members to voice concern and work for the threatened environment. Under the direction of constituency convener Mrs. Tom Corrigan, secretarial reports from 12 branches were heard. Standing committee chairmen's reports were given in a panel discussion, moderated by Mrs. Graham Mayne of Highway WI. Nominating committee members Mrs. J . I. Woodrow and Mrs. Harold Steele introduced three standing committee chairmen: Mrs. J . I. Woodwrow, social service convener, Mrs. Norman Code, UN convener and Mrs. Graham Mayne, home economics convener. Mrs. Morrisroe Hillsdown- Valley branch th the attendance plaque for 1972. Mrs. John Warke, constituency handicraft convener, presented awards to Mrs. A. Bennett, Mrs. Joe Nolan, Mrs. Glen May berry and Mrs. Bill Moore. Winner of the over- 70 handicraft award was Mrs. M. I. met recently at the home of Mrs. W. Hay Jr. Special guests were Mrs. J. V. Smith and Mrs. W. E . Jans-sen of the Hillsdown Valley W. L, and members of the Pine Lake WJ. "~ The short business meeting was followed by a garden party and a puppet show By MRS. JOHN WARKE Pine Lake Pine Lake WI held the September meeting at the home of Mrs. John Warke with 10 members and six visitors present. The family monthly swimming night sponsored by Pine Lake WI at the Red Deer swimming pool will begin on the third Saturday night in October. Committee reports included reports from the jelly committee which stated progress with its work. The bazaar committee reported some of its work is completed with the remaining work progressing well. A drug seminar will be held at Pine Lake Community Centre soon. UN slides will be shown by Mrs. John Sawyer at the October meeting. . A pictorial calendar of Alberta scenes will be sent to the Australian WI pen- pal group The executive and directors are to send in their submissions on the Worth commission report soon. Pine Lake WI catered lunch for the Joe Cramer auction sale at the Pine Lake Hall. Guest speaker for the afternoon, introduced by Mrs. Dennis Buckler, was Brian West, animal and relatives in the Pine Deer, department of agriculture. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Allen have returned from a trip to England and have been visiting friends and relatives in the Pine Lake area before returning home to Calgary. A bridal shower was held for Miss Diane Wilson of Pine Lake recently prior to her marriage to Harold Peters of Delburne. The history book committee reports 22 copies sold and 17 more copies ordered of Buried Treasure, a book being published in co- operation with Elnora, Trochu and Huxley depicting t^ t stories of f residents of the area prior * c 1900 and after Buried Treasure will be released from the publisher sometime in November. Residents of Pine Lake are generally in favor of having a branch of Parkland Regional Library at Pine Lake. A shower was held at Pine Lake Community Centre recently for Mr. and Mrs Andy Kuzmicki. A selection of gifts was presented by Art Vincent on behalf of those present. Beginners in Grade 1 at Delburne travelling on the school bus from Pine Lake include Leita LawTence, Peter LawTence, Teresa Vincent, John Paul Cramer. David Holt and Layne Durrand. David Smith is attending University of Alberta in the faculty of pharmacy. Carol Loewen is taking nursing training at the Red Deer College.
