The 53rd annual conference
of the Red Deer Centre constituency
of the Alberta
Women's Institute was held in

the Knox Presbyterian Church
with Mrs . Tom Corrigan
presiding. J^ ol'/ /? fS Representing the 183
members in the constituency.
59 delegates registered.
Following the appointment of
committees, the secretaries of
the 11 branches gave reports on
their membership and finances.
Mrs. Vern Northey of
Balmoral was moderator of a
panel of seven standing committee
chairmen who reported
on their convenership.
Mrs. Harold Steele of
Springvale reported on
agriculture; Mrs John Warke
of Pine Lake reported on handicraft;
Mrs. Eric Pierce of
Pine Lake reported on health;
Mrs. Graham Mayne of the
Highway district reported on
home economics. Mrs. Norman
Code of Springvale reported on
the United Nations while Mrs.
J. E. Woodrow of Lacombe
reported on social services. A
report from Mrs. Gordon Miller
of Blackfalds on citizenship and
education was also received.

Handicraft awards were
presented by Mrs. John Warke
to the three branches which had
won most points in competitions:
Ridgewood. Highway
and Hillsdown- Valley.
Top individual awards went
to Mrs. Bill Moore. Ridgewood;
with Mrs. John MacDonald of
Ridgewood. second.
The over- 70 award went to
Mrs. Joe Nolan of Penhold and
Mrs. Kathleen Kyme of
Balmoral. Mrs. Edna Clarke,
department of extension in Edmonton,
was guest speaker and
spoke on nutrition.
Nominating committee comprised
of Mrs. George
Groeneveld of Penhold and
Mrs. Glen Mayberry of
Ridgewood announced the new
officers for the 1973- 75 term.
They include Mrs. Chris
Lawrence of Pine Lake, who is
the new constituency convener;
Mrs. L. A. Northey of
Balmoral, handicrafts convener;
Mrs. Harold Steele,
health; and Mrs. John Warke.
