Warke Apron S c h o o l : On Dec. 3 I attended an apron s c h o o l at the Red Deer R e c r e a t i o n Centre which was again arranged by Mrs. M o r r i s r o e and the Dept. o f E x t e n s i o n . As i t was r a t h e r a bad day, only 12 or 14 l a d i e s attended. We were t o l d what an apron must be and of d i f f e r e n t s t y l e s of aprons. We were guided as to m a t e r i a l we should buy and common c o m p l a i n t s to watch f o r i n f a b r i c . We were shown v a r i o u s f a b r i c s samples t h a t were f a u l ty and were a l s o shown c o n s t r u c t i o n steps of sewing an apron. Actual aprons as w e l l as p i c t u r e s of aprons E x e m p l i f i e d common f a u l t s. On l e a v i n g the Centre t h a t a f t e r n o o n I f e l t q u i t e d i s a p p o i n t ed i n what I had l e a r n e d . I had expected to g a i n ideas f o r making n i c e l i t t l e aprons and only got one. But i n p r e p a r i n g my r e p o r t f o r our W. I., I have changed my mind about being d i s a p p o i n t e d . I r e a l i z e now how much was learned that can be passed along. Making an apron, now, shouldn't present near the problem i t has been before. Submitted by F r i e d a Lawrence W. I. Supper: A s u c c e s s f u l W. I. supper was held on F r i d a y, Dec. 11. The turkey supper and a l l the trimmings were d e l i c i o u s . Mrs. Becking-s a l e gave a t o a s t to the husbands and Dave Smith s u i t a b l y r e p l i e d . A program f o l l o w e d which i n c l u d e d piano s o l o s and t r i o s ( o n an out- of- tune p i a n o ) , v o c al s o l o accompanied by piano, a p l a y , Kangaroo c o u r t scene, games^ and c a r o l s i n g i n g. Submitted by E l l a Sawyer A u s t r a l i a n Pen P a l s : Our correspondence w i t h the Haden Branch i n A u s t r a l i a i s f l o u r i s h i n g n i c e l y . Several Haden branch members have w r i t t en most i n t e r e s t i n g l e t t e r s to members of our W. I. None of these l e t t e r s overlap or say the same t h i n g. Our branch put t o g e t h e r a l o v e l y s c r a p book and sent i t t o Haden I n r e t u r n f o r Christmas Miss Ada Newton, my correspondent, sent me an A u s t r a l i an ( map) l i n e n tea towel and the Haden Branch sent our W. I. Branch an A u s t r a l i an 1965 d i a r y. We have become q u i t e i n t e r e s t e d i n t h i s p r o j e c t as l i f e i n A u s t r a l i a i s i n many ways so d i f f e r e n t from ours. We are l e a r n i n g how the other h a l f l i v e s . Even t h e i r Christmas card p i c t u r e s are d i f f e r e n t!
