Friday. February 5, 7999, County News
PINE L A K E WI.
The first meeting of 1999
was held in the Hub Community
Centre with our
new president, Kathleen
Lawrence, presiding.
A committee was struck
to organize the annual
Heart Fund Card party
( whist) to be held Fridav,
Feb. 27, 1999, at the Hub
Community Centre at 8
p. m. Wc will continue our
twinning with the province
of New Brunswick with
studies, correspondence
and the making of a wall
hanging. We will also partake
i n a ' stocking' project
in which we will he putting
dimes ina small stocking
with the resulting amount
of money to be used for
A. C. W. W. projects at the
end of the year.
Several members plan on
attending the A. W. I. District
Conference/ Workshop
to be held at Lougheed
Centre in Lougheed on
March 9, 1999.
Millie Munro, Educational
convener for Citizenship
and Legislation presented
an interesting program.
She informed us that anew
modernized Citizenship of
Canada Act was tabled in
Parliament, Dec. 7, 1998. It
will set out clearer guidelines
on what it takes to
become a Canadian Citizen.
The new act is expected to
also include a modernized
citizenship oath for new
Canadians. The current
oath emphasizes allegiance
to the Queen, her heirs and
successors. The topic was
" What Canadians Don't
Know About Canada" —
one i n two Canadians ( half
of us) cannot pass a basic
test about our country. At
least that's what the
results of an Angus Reid
poll suggest this past summer.
The survey conducted
in May asked about 1500
adults from across Canada
20 questions about our
country. Then to see how
each one of us stacked up,
we were invited to answer
the quiz to see what we
knew. The results were
quite startling.
To end the evening we
showed a picture of an old
building or landmark. The
next meeting of EL. W. I. will
be held on Feb. 9 at 6: 30
p. m. at the Hub in the form
of a Pot Luck supper. We
will be entertaining our
Red Deer Centre Constituency
convener. Vi
Moore.

MARY STEWART COLLECT
Keep us O Lord from pettiness; let us be
large in thought, in word and deed
Let us be done with fault finding and leave
off self seeking
May we put away all pretence and meet
each other face to face, without self (
pity and without prejudice
May we never be hasty in judgement and
always generous
Let us take time for all things; make us grow
calm, serene, gentle
Teach us to put into action our better
impulses straight forward and unafraid.
Grant that we may realize that it is the little
things that create differences; that in
the big things of life we are one
And may we strive to touch and know the
great human heart common to us all
and
O Lord God let us not forget to be kind.
