Pine Lake Kathleen Lawrence In the absence of president Irma Lawrence, Marilyn Watten- \ barger conducted the first meet- ; ing of the year with eight mem-i l bers present. Committee reports ' were given with the financial ! statement for 1992 to be tabled at { the February meeting. Plans for the annual Heart , Fund card party, Saturday, Feb. ; 27, will be presented at the February meeting. Secret Sister names for 1993 were drawn. Guest speaker at the February meeting will be Constituency Convener, Mrs. Trudy Carson. Program for January was Citizenship, given by Doris Warke, who outlined the progress made regarding Women's Rights, which i culminated in The Persona Case • when, in 1929, women were recognized as Persons and were declared fit to be a part of, and make decisions on the political scene. Roll call: Name one change you would like to see take place within your branch in 1993. Women's Institute Handicraft Tea and Display Red Deer and District Museum Saturday, April 24 2- 4 PM $ 2 covers everything Handicraft Display April 23 - May 2 Pine Lake Kathleen Lawrence $ 366.00 was realized when eight tables of Court Whist were played with an additional $ 70.00 being donated. Lue Clark, Regional Director of The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta and NWT, was the guest speaker. She stated that 70% of monies raised goes into research. Four risk factors in causing heart attacks or strokes are ( 1) Smoking ( 2) Cholesterol levels ( 3) Hereditary ( 4) Stress and how we react. She said, " If you have a pain in the chest, be a pain in the neck and complain." Drawn thread work will be demonstrated at the Red Deer Museum on April 29 by Gayle Olson during the WI Handicraft display. Minute Minders were as follows: Citizenship and Legislation,- Persons Case display at the Museum until March 8. Social Services: Successful card party for the Heart Fund. Environment: Pine Lake Concerned Citizens request for funds was well received. Education: Survey of High School students and their diets. Agriculture: One farm family feeds 80 people. We must thank the farmer for the food on our tables. International Affairs: Parades took place recognizing International Women's Day, March 8. In some countries women t> re not allowed to parade or celebrate. Home Ec: It is easier to watch your diet than follow it. XtydVttfX Pine Lake Kathleen Lawrence Nine members and one visitor gathered, April 13, to recognize the 37th anniversary of the Pine Lake WI Branch. The annual Pine Lake WI coffee party will be held, June 2, at the Hall. Flowers will be purchased for the WI corner and, if agreeable with the Ag Society, the same plan for grass cutting of the corner as last year will be followed for the coming season. The FWIC Strategic Planning Questionnaire was discussed and returned. Pine Lake WI will sponsor the Farmer's Market at Bi- Lo Service Station again this year and will adopt the suggestion of a sign to be hung on the new Tourist Association sign at the service sta- \ tion. Members participated in the " Clean Up the Ditches" project on SR 816 south. Branch pledged $ 70 toward the cost of re- instating the recycle bins j at the Bi- Lo Service Station. Program— Environment— presented by Isabelle Beck dealt with plastics- vs- paper and their effect on the environment. A number of myths were dispelled about plastics.
