Ten members attended
the . May meeting of Pine
Lake W. I. Our group is
honored to have Marilyn
Wattenbarger from Pine
Lake WI. as our new Red
Deer Centre Constituency
Convener.
The newly formed Children's
Garden Club is
proud to report 17 participants
registered. There are
" 12 school- age children and
5 pre- schoolers eager to
begin their very own garden.
Members attended and
enjoyed spring teas at
Calder and Hillsdown. The
Hillsdown W. I.' s special
guest, Gwen Whitmore,
told of her experiences
after she came to Canada
as a war bride. Another
highlight was the 70th
anniversary of Wooddale
W. l. The entertainment by
Rimbey's local choir was
enjoyed by a l l . Our treasurer,
Vanessa Elliot, was
pleased to announce the
receipt of an E- mail letter
from Hazelanna Carter, her
New Brunswick pen pal,
replying to hers earlier in
the year.
Pine Lake W. I.' s dates to
remember are the annual
coffee party and bake sale
on Wednesday, June 2, and
the Farmers' Market every
Friday afternoon from
June 11 to September 3
from 3: 00 to 5: 30 p. m. at
the Bi- Lo service station.

The June meeting of Pine Lake W. I. was held on June
8 with six members present.
Our June 2 coffee party was again a success, ladie
enjoyed the morning as they partook of coffee and
sweets. Carol Cuttam was the lucky guest who won the
duor prize which was a commemorative spoon depicting
90 years of Alberta Women's Institute.

er for Agriculture, Lillie Clutton, Pine Lake W. I. dele
gate, Kathleen Lawrence and Doris Warke will attend
the Provincial Convention at Olds on June 8- 10.
The evening's excellent program entitled Famous 5
\ Nation Builders was presented by Marilyn Wattenbarger.
Lively and contemporary issues of the equality and
rights of women were created in part 70 years ago by
the landmark influence of Alberta's Famous Five - Emily
Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Louise McKinney,
Irene Parbly, Nellie McLung - and the Persons Case.
With summer soon upon us, ladies will be busy with
our jelly making project, and the operation of our weekly
farmer's market. Our W. L will also sponsor Crossroads
annual fair class needlecraft a w a r d . ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^—
