ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTES PROJECTS ( Cont'd.) A. W. I. Convention, Camrose - June 9,10, 1998. Representing
F. L. W. I, were Kathleen Lawrence i n charge of the branch handicraft but as a non
delegate and Marion Brown also a I r o v i n c i a l Educational Convener. Fifteen
a r t i c l e s were entered i n the Handicraft competition with eight f i r s t s and seven
seconds. Marion Brown on behalf of AWI presented three CD- ROMs as door prizes,
one of which went to Mildred Keith, FWIC President and guest speaker.
Roy and Marion Brown helped present " Safari Adventures" i n the slide/ pantomine
presentation. Marion also spoke on h i g h l i g h t s from the ACWW Conference.
L e s l i e v i l l e 65th Anniversary - Oct. 28, 1998 Marion Brown,
L i l l i e Clutton, Kathleen Lawrence and Doris Warke joined i n the celebration.
FEDERATED WOMEN'S INSTITUTES OF CANADA:
Founder's Day, I'ebruary 19 - President Marilyn Wattenbarger
brought Daughter Thirza and Daughter- in- law, Zara to the March-;/ meeting to
honour the day. The B l i n d Auction netted $ 41.80 which w i l l go to the Adelaide
Hoodiess Homestead ( The Willows) Fund.
Alberta W. I. i s twinned with New Brunswick W. I. Isabelle
Eeck, Vanessa E l l i o t t ( e- mail), and Kathleen Lawrence have been given penpals.
ASSOCIATED COUNTRY WOMEN OF THE WORLD:
Haden p i c t o r i a l calendar draw was won by Marilyn Wattenbarger
PLWI received Aussie l a p e l pins as a thank you g i f t from the
B e l l e t t i n i s . Each member plus any guests at the s o c i a l evening received one.
Kathleen Lawrence shared her correspondence from South African
S h i r l e y Swanepcel with our branch
Pennies for Friendship. In a d d i t i o n the A p r i l challenge sheet
amounted to $ 107.69 to be forwarded to the world body.
World Food Day - Oct. 16, 1998 - Annual pot luck/ ethnic supper
Shoe Box Project for 3rd World - T o i l e t r i e s , toys, paper
supplies, etc. as w e l l as & 10.00 f o r m a i l i n g costs were donated.
ACWW CONFERENCE - F r e t o r i a , South A f r i c a - A p r i l 1- 7, 1998
Roy and Marion Brown registered for the conference, with Marion as one of the
f i v e o f f i c i a l voting delegates from A l b e r t a , Canada. Roy was one of the 50
husbands attending. His r e g i s t r a t i o n gave him f u l l access to a l l conference
functions. He also bought a d d i t i o n a l tours provided by the Conference to enable
him to l e a r n more of the area. Marion brought back s l i d e s and videos of much of
the 22nd T r i e n n i a l Conference. Prior to the I r e t o r i a Conference, Roy and Marion
experienced an 18- day SAFARI through South A f r i c a and following the conference,
v i s i x e d V i c t o r i a F a l l s . They then spent two weeks i n England before returning home.
