The Prime Minister has headed another overseas trade mission: indi-vidual tanners are creating their own markets while others are serving tune in gaol lor w ishing to have freedom of choice in grain marketing Home business, ( especially by women), is having an impact on the economic and employment picture. The challenge is there as never before for Value Added goods and services. Let me tell you a true story of an enterprising young Canadian couple. Lyle Beck, son of Pine Lake W. I. member Isabelle Beck, completed his education in Delbume, Alberta. He then furthered his education al Red Deer College by taking business administration courses in computers, He. As many of our young Lyle broadened his knowledge and life experiences by travelling across Europe. Asia and Australia. lie especially liked Indonesia as a break from the Canadian cold winters. However, marke people travelling costs money and recognizing the uniqueness of many Indonesian crafts, he began to bring back Asian jewellery, small carvings etc. to see i f they were saleable in Canada. His ingenuity proved correct and he soon established a retail store in Canada. On one such trip lo Indonesia, he met a Canadian airline ( light attendant and eventually married her. They began a full- time wholesale import trade from Indonesia now supplying retail stores across Canada with unique handmade wooden- carved crafts. The couple works with one particular Indonesian family of about twenty- five people with Lisa collaborating in the design of articles to fit the North American lifestyle. Such a co- operative enterprise has enabled the Indonesian v i l lage family to market their crafts at a fair price. This family has enlarged their home, built a warehouse and improved their standard of living with full employment. Kyle and Lisa have also benefited. They are completing a warehouse in Red Deer and will continue their wholesale business of ever- changing unique crafts that the Canadian public wishes to purchase. Look around you.
