Pine Lake WI is holding their Heart Fund Card
Party at the Hub Centre, Feb. 29

Perfect attendance for ^ 1 was
achieved by Dorothy Herbert,
Irma Lawrence and Doris Warke,
with Vera Pierce receiving 25
years perfect attendance award.
For December roll call each member
told of a family Christmas
tradition.
Health convener Irma Lawrence
presented for her program
the video Heart Smart Shopping.
The annual Heart Fund Card
Party is scheduled for Feb. 29 at
the Hub at 8 o'clock. Swimming
is available at the Ghost Pine
Resort on Tuesdays and Thursdays
with exercise classes in the
evening on Monday and Wednesday.
Yearly dues were paid and
Secret Sisters for * 92 were drawn
for. _ 7*&- fv.

Pine Lake WI has contributed
$ 200 to the Concerned Citizens of
Pine Lake to show strong support
of their continued effort in opposing
the proposed regional landfill
site at the headwaters of Pine
Lake.
The AWI Purpose Statement!
includes: To promote the improvement
of urban and rural communities
and to safeguard the environment.
Mini- reports were presented by
the educational conveners. Winners
at the Heart Fund Card Party
were as follows: high scores
Linda Holt and John Sawyer, low
scores Vera Pierce and Arthur
Teague. Realized was $ 435.
Roll call was a donation to the
Food Bank.
Social Services Convener
Marion Brown introduced the
program Amnesty International
and outlined a brief history. You
can give support only to someone
outside of your own country and j
letters to government help to get
prisoners freed.
International Women's Day
was recognized by a number of
women who attended the meeting
organized and directed by Marion

Appeal Hearing before Ihe Development
Appeal Board of the County
of Red Deer in regard to a proposed
Regional Landfill that is to be
placed at the headwaters of Pine
Lake. Two of the members spoke
to voice their individual opposition.
Marion Brown will go as a delegate
to the District 3 Conference in
Camrose. March 16- 17,1992. Two
items will be contributed to the silent
auction.
The Liberian Project will receive
the proceeds from a sale of marmalade.
Rules and regulations for WI
handicraft entries were given.
Alberta Women's Institutes,
Women of Umfarm, Alberta
Women in Support of Agriculture
and Alberta Farm Women's Network
are sponsoring Alberta Rural
Child Care— a pilot project
funded by Alberta Agricultural
Initiative Program.
The Federated Women's Institutes
of Canada 1991- 1994 Competitions
were named. The Cultural
project— a ' Children's
Book'— There's a Hollyhock Looking
in My Window'. The Senator
Cairine Wilson Competion for the
1991- 1994 Triennium is an essay,
' A Little Known Historical Event'.
One which took place in your own
province.
Pine Lake WI are sponsoring a
recognition of International
Women's Day on Sunday, March
8, at 8 p. m. at the Hub Community
Centre, Pine Lake. We welcome
and encourage all interested women
to attend.
Red Deer Centre Constituency
Conveners Trudy Carson and
Florence Rutten attended the February
meeting. They brought an
update of activities and programs
from all levels of Women's Institutes.
The triennial ACWW Conference
will be held in Hague, Holland
in June, 1992.

The Canadian government has
earmarked $ 6 million for the United
Nations development fund for women
in Africa. The plan is to support
women's activities and provide training
projects in food security.
