T W E N T Y - F I R S T PROVINCIAL CONVENTION 37 REPORT OF DISTRICT No. 4 Mrs. J . A . MocQuorrie, Barons, director I have pleasure in presenting the report of Institute work in District No. 4, which is still one of progress. There are eight Constituencies having approximately 57 Branches with a membership of 982. Receipts for the two-year period total approximately $ 20,000. Calgary- Okotoks— Mrs. E . Bird, Aldersyde, Convener, reports 12 Branches, 250 members and $ 2,022.84 realized for the treasury. Baby layettes for needy cases are always on hand in this Constituency. One W. I. reports Round Table Conferences on Standing Committee subjects instead of a paper. Taber— Mrs. R. E . Reynolds, Picture Butte, Convener, reports 14 Branches with membership of 294, and has six Girls' Clubs. Activities in this Constituency include hot lunches for school children, Christmas hampers, handicrafts and horticulture. A radio was installed in Picture Butte school. An annual Gypsy tea is held in Coaldale with Mrs. Norton as Convener. Glsichen— Mrs. D. Clark, Cluny, reports five Branches" and one Girls' Club. The membership is 90 and these Branches have raised $ 486.00. One Branch has a Charity Fund, out of which is paid care of needy children's eyes, tonsils and other necessary medical care. Other activities include assisting School Fairs, providing library books, tennis courts, skating rinks and helpful in getting a health officer appointed in one district. Pincher Creek- Rocky Mountain— Mrs. C. Lynch Staunton, Lundbreck, Convener. This Constituency Conference usually takes the form of a very delightful picnic at the river. There are three Branches in the Constituency. Beaver Mines W. I. owns their own hall and finds it a source of revenue. One Branch is interested in making jute rugs. Warner'— Mrs. O. G. Cronkhite, New Dayton, Convener, reports seven Branches, Lucky Strike W. I. having disbanded owing to distance from railroad. Receipts in these Branches total $ 963.00. The outstanding activity is the Flower Show and Fair held in conjunction with the Constituency Conference. A Harvest Festival with a Harvest Queen and a Hallowe'en Carnival proved popular affairs. The Branches try to cover all Standing Committee subjects at their meetings. New Dayton Girls' Club attended Olds Convention in a body. This Club enjoys the work of W. I. Girls' Club. Little Bow— Mrs. M. L . Todd, Vulcan, Convener, reports eight Branches with a membership of 128 and have raised $ 600.00. There are three Girls' Clubs, one of them a Junior Club. An excellent Handicraft Exhibition was held in connection with the Constituency Conference. Vocations for Girls and Vocations for Boys have been studied in one Branch, while the upkeep of their rest room has been the work in another. Medicine Hat— Miss Mary McLeay, Irvine, Convener, reports three Branches with 42 members. One Branch reports a series of telephone bridge parties. Walsh Institute loans their W. I. Hall for community purposes. Caring for needy families and assisting schools in various ways are other activities of these Branches. They hope to form another Institute to be named " Ethel Webster" in memory of the late Mrs. Webster, " Flower Lady" and former Institute worker. Redcliff— Mrs. H. Demorest, Bindloss, Convener, reports two Branches. Social Plains with 31 members reports interesting meetings and they celebrated their 20th anniversary. Articles in the A. W. I. Report are read by the Secretary. Bindloss W. I. has 19 members. This Branch holds their meetings the same day as the men hold theirs, and they have lunch together. They are fixing up their rest room and made curtains for the hall.
