14 A L B E R T A WOMEN'S INSTITUTES Mrs. C. H . Stout, Convener of Agriculture and Canadian Industries- then read her splendid report which appears on page 60. THURSDAY AFTERNOON The Thursday afternoon session opened with community singing. Mrs. Wm. Stewart and Mrs. 0. G. Sibbald, Director of District No. 3, were the presiding officers. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Alberta Federation of Women asking our organization to become a member of the Federation. It was moved by Mrs. Clark, seconded by Mrs. MacQuarrie that we do not affiliate with the Alberta Federation of Women. Motion carried. Mrs. 0. G. Sibbald, Munson, Director of District No. 3, read her report of that district. This report is printed on page 35. Mrs. Todd nominated Mrs. R. E . Wood for the 1941 representative to the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada Convention, to go only if finances permit. Mrs. Bennett moved, seconded by Mrs. MacQuarrie, that nominations close. Motion carried. Mrs. W. Rothwell, Convener of Canadianization and Immigration, gave her report which will be found on page 50. Mrs. Brian Ashworth, Federated Convener led the discussion following this report. She stressed the importance of knowing the Naturalization Laws and said that regarding immigration, there seemed to be little that our Branches could do, as there will be no immigration until after the war. The report of District No. 4 was read by the Director, Mrs. J. A. MacQuarrie. This fine report is on page 37. On behalf of all the delegates, Mrs. Zabel from Peace River and Mrs. Thompson from Coaldale, presented Mrs. Stewart with a wrist watch, to take the place of the one she lost on the Athenia. Another small gift was given to Mrs. Stewart and Mr. Stewart was not forgotten, when Mrs. Stewart was asked to take a pair of gorgeous plaid socks to him. The results of the elections of Directors for the four Districts are as follows: District No. 1, Mrs. M . Zabel, Peace River. District No. 2, Mrs. E . E . Morton, Vegreville. District No. 3— Mrs. Wm. MacFarlane, Red Deer. District No. 4— Mrs. E . J . Bell, Hussar. At this time, Mrs. A. Wotherspoon sang two beautiful solos, " The Night Wind" and " What wonderful World." She was accompanied by Mrs. Spencer. The Publicity Secretary for the south, Mrs. Norton then read her splendid report which appeal's on page 59. Mrs. Montgomery was too busy with refunds to read her report for the north, but the report is on page 59— so please read this excellent report. The reports on Legislation and International Relations were read by the Convener, Mrs. Lynch Staunton, and are to be found on page 63.
