n ew one has been formed at Jasper w i t h twenty- seven members, w i t h another
b r a n c h i n s i g h t i n the m o u n t a i n area. C o m m u n i t y work, l o c a l r e l i e f i n v a r i e d forms,
flowers and fruit for the h o s p i t a l , school y a r d equipment, books and pictures for
schools, b u i l d i n g a n d f u r n i s h i n g h a l l a n d rest rooms, hot school lunches, picnics,
C h r i s t m a s f e s t i v i t i e s , prizes and medals for p r o f i c i e n c y a n d attendance, school and
a g r i c u l t u r a l fairs, g r a n d m o t h e r s ' day, gifts a n d l a y e t t e s for babies, have been among

D u r i n g the year there have been d e m o n s t r a t i o n s i n sewing, basketry, sealing
wax art, m a k i n g of salads, cookies, puff p a s t r y , etc., a n d h o w to make a dress f o r m.
M o n e y has been raised b y n o v e l t y and masquerade dances, bazaars, food sales,
concerts whist drives.
F o u r of t h e I n s t i t u t e s h a v e e n t e r t a i n e d t h e i r sister I n s t i t u t e s . Music a n d a c t i ng
have e n l i v e n e d the m o n t h l y programmes. D u r i n g the m o n t h of O c t o b e r six C o n ­ferences
were held a n d the delegates were r o y a l l y e n t e r t a i n e d b y the local branch.
T h e success of C o n s t i t u e n c y Conferences is l a r g e l y due to the s p l e n d i d w o r k of the
C o n v e n e r s . Addresses were g i v e n on the Referendum. Again, this year, I urge
each I n s t i t u t e to be represented at the f a l l conferences. The report of 1924 s h o u ld
s h ow m a r k e d progress o n a l l e d u c a t i o n a l lines.
L a c Ste. A n n e C o n s t i t u e n c y , M r s . A n n e Weber, M a y e r t h o r p e , Convener, ten
I n s t i t u t e s a l l r e p o r t i n g new members. The Conference was held at O n o w a y w i th
a n e v e n i n g meeting for men, women a n d y o u n g people, the l a t t e r i n the m a j o r i t y.
I a m l o o k i n g for a s t r o n g G i r l s ' C l u b i n t h i s n e i g h b o r h o o d . One B r a n c h c a r r i e d on
a n a d v e r t i s i n g c a m p a i g n to a t t r a c t settlers t o t h i s d i s t r i c t . Two W . F s . boast new
rest rooms b o t h tree of debt. Other a c t i v i t i e s , bazaars, C h r i s t m a s f e s t i v i t i e s , and
a g r i c u l t u r a l f a i r s.
V e r m i l i o n a n d A l e x a n d r a C o n s t i t u e n c i e s , Convener, M r s . Geo. E l g i e , M i n b u r n ,
h a v e f o u r I n s t i t u t e s a n d one G i r l s ' C l u b , a l l a c t i v e a n d d o i n g good l o c a l w o r k . One
B o a r d gives medals for p r o f i c i e n c y i n school and prizes for fair. Another flowers
f o r the sick. Another I n s t i t u t e reports a i d i n g the s k a t i n g r i n k . A membership
d r i v e has been arranged. The C o n s t i t u e n c y Conference was held at M i n b u rn
and p r o v e d to be one of the most e n t h u s i a s t i c held i n these C o n s t i t u e n c i e s . A ll
I n s t i t u t e s were represented, some d r i v i n g f o r t y miles a n d a r r i v i n g p u n c t u a l l y at
9 a. m. A delegate f r om the G i r l s ' C l u b attended. Problems were discussed and
good r e p o r t s g i v e n.
V e g r e v i l l e C o n s t i t u e n c y , C o n v e n e r , M r s . J . G o o d a l l , R y l e y , has four I n s t i t u t e s,
t w o of w h i c h h a v e a large m e m b e r s h i p and a l l are a c t i v e . One I n s t i t u t e excels in
t h e q u a l i t y a n d amount of i t s r e l i e f w o r k . A n o t h e r gave a p r i z e for school s i n g i ng
" O C a n a d a " the best. Another a " c l e a r y a r d " contest, i n s t a l l i n g gas i n rest r o om
a n d o t h e r a c t i v i t i e s . A successful Conference was held at H o l d e n . A l l I n s t i t u t es
represented. Good reports r e a d a n d v a l u a b l e i n f o r m a t i o n g i v e n o n the e d u c a t i o n al
part of o u r work.
. W e s t l o c k C o n s t i t u e n c y , Convener, M r s . G . S i l v e s t e r , M i d - P e m b i n a , has five
I n s t i t u t e s , each d o i n g good c o m m u n i t y work. Well attended meetings and good
addresses have been given. Garden part}- held, books for school, l i b r a r y , hot
lunches, are a m o n g t h e i r a c t i v i t i e s . A well a t t e n d e d Conference was h e l d at M i d -
P e m b i n a a n d the delegates h a d a banquet. Interesting reports w i t h music i n t e r ­spersed
and addresses were g i v e n . A h a p p y and p r o f i t a b l e time was spent.
E d m o n t o n , Sturgeon and V i c t o r i a Constituencies. The Convener, M r s.
M a c g r e g o r S m i t h , E d m o n t o n , reports the promptness w i t h w h i c h the i n t e r e s t i ng
r e p o r t s have been sent, p a r t i c u l a r l y F o i t S a s k a t c h e w a n and Pine Creek. F r om
t h e smallest I n s t i t u t e ( Shakespeare) comes the t h o u g h t w h i c h s h o i d d be an example
t o a l l . " W e d e c i d e d not to t a l k about, one another for the year 1924." The C o n ­vener
has v i s i t e d f o u r of h e r I n s t i t u t e s a n d h e l p e d M e a n o o k w i t h some of i t s problems.
