W o m e n ' s E x t e n s i o n S e r v i c e w o r k has followed v e r y s i m i l a r lines to those of
former years. Women's o r g a n i z a t i o n s t h r o u g h o u t the P r o v i n c e h a v e t a k e n a d v a n t age
of the service g i v e n t h r o u g h t h i s B r a n c h a n d excellent a d u l t e d u c a t i o n a l w o rk
has been a c c o m p l i s h e d.
I n 1923 lectures, d e m o n s t r a t i o n - l e c t u r e s a n d s h o r t courses were g i v e n to W o m e n ' s
I n s t i t u t e s , W o m e n ' s I n s t i t u t e G i r l s ' C l u b s , U n i t e d F a r m W o m e n ' s A s s o c i a t i o n s a nd
a f ew C o m m u n i t y C l u b s . The subjects d e a l t w i t h were: V a r i o u s aspects of t h e food
p r o b l e m , sewing, m i l l i n e r y , different branches of c h i l d welfare, home n u r s i n g and
t r e a t m e n t i n emergency.

T h e arrangements made for c a r r y i n g o n the w o r k are as f o l l o w s : The D e p a r t ment
of A g r i c u l t u r e provides the lecturer or demonstrator, p a y i n g her t r a v e l l i ng
expenses a n d sustenance allowance. The l o c a l o r g a n i z a t i o n s u n d e r t a k e to advertise
t h e lecture, d e m o n s t r a t i o n - l e c t u r e or short course. T h e y p r o v i d e t h e p l a c e ^ of
m e e t i n g a n d some of t h e equipment, where e q u i p m e n t is r e q u i r e d.
E x t e n s i o n w o r k was c a r r i e d o n d u r i n g e v e r y m o n t h of t h e year, the greater
p a r t b e i n g done d u r i n g the summer months.

S e w i n g courses have been h e l d for three and five days. The t e n - d a y courses
h a v e been d i s c o n t i n u e d as it was f o u n d t h a t women c o u l d not leave t h e i r homes
e v e r y d a y f o r such a l o n g p e r i o d of t i m e . Single d a y s e w i n g d e m o n s t r a t i o n - l e c t u r es
were g i v e n a n d were f o u n d t o be v e r y helpful.
M i l l i n e r y courses were h e l d for three d a y s . These were t h o r o u g h l y enjoyed
b y the women a n d g i r l s . Single d a y d e m o n s t r a t i o n - l e c t u r e s were g i v e n o n different
b r a n c h e s of t h i s subject. The d e m o n s t r a t i o n - l e c t u r e on m i l l i n e r y r e n o v a t i o n was
of great v a l u e as i t i n c l u d e d so m a n y v a l u a b l e h i n t s a n d d e a l t w i t h the t r e a t m e n t of
a large v a r i e t y of m a t e r i a l s.
C o - o p e r a t i o n w i t h the P u b l i c H e a l t h D e p a r t m e n t has been m a i n t a i n e d . The
t w o D e p a r t m e n t s put on j o i n t w o r k i n the S o u t h e r n p a r t of the P r o v i n c e d u r i ng
J u l y . C l i n i c s were h e l d i n t h e m o r n i n g s a n d l e c t u r e s i n t h e afternoon. One lecture
o n " T h e D i e t of C h i l d r e n of P r e - S c h o o l A g e " was g i v e n b y a P u b l i c H e a l t h nurse
a n d a lecture on " T h e R e l a t i o n s h i p of a W e l l B a l a n c e d D i e t t o D e n t i t i o n " was
g i v e n b y t h e D i r e c t o r o f t h e W o m e n ' s E x t e n s i o n S e r v i c e .
