As I set out to write this newsletter, the
days are getting longer and surely Spring
cannot be far behind. We also begin
traveling about the province, meeting you
all at District and Constituency
Conferences. I am optimistic that many
of you will find the time to attend the
conferences planned for your area. Not
only will you learn more about Alberta
Women's Institutes, but you will have an
opportunity to meet with friends from
other branches that you don't see often
enough.
Speaking of friends, that is exactly what
we will be celebrating at the Convention
in Olds on May 26 & 27.
FRIENDSHIP - The Thread
Binding Today and Tomorrow is the
theme for the Convention. It is my hope
that everyone who attends will capture
that spirit of friendship that nurtures and
keeps our organization together.
Do you have a story of a special
friendship thai happened because of
your membership in Alberta Women's
Institutes? If so, please take a moment
to write it down and send to me. I would
like to share special friendship stories
throughout the convention. The
friendship that members have
gained throughout the years is
what is holding us together as
we move into a new century.

Deadline for Convention Registration is
May 5 - Don't be late!
LINES - by the time this mailing comes
out most branches will have received
their video and kit for the Literacy
Project - LINKS. Please take time at a
branch meeting to view the video, review
the material in the kit and discuss
whether your branch or constituency
might participate in a project. Talk to the
Literacy Councils in your area and find out
what they are doing to promote literacy
among adults in the community. And most
importantly, take a moment to complete the
evaluation and return to the Edmonton Office.
Sales Items
The history book, Many and Remarkable, is
still available from the office. We have
reduced the price to $ 15.00 and the book
makes an excellent gift for speakers or
visitors to your branch. Council has approved
the commission of Randy Crick to design a
painting that can be placed on T- shirts, Bags,
napkins, notepaper and many other possible
mediums that will be strictly used by Alberta
Women's Institutes. This will not likely be
ready for Convention, but we hope to have
sale items available for fall
FWIC Convention
All available applications to attend the FWIC
Convention in Brandon have been taken. IfyoB
would still like to attend, let the office know
and should any extra applications become
available from other provinces, we will notify
you immediately. Convention attendants are
requested to bring one or a set of Christmas
Ornaments to the value of $ 5. As well, each
District is responsible for craft items to
the value of $ 40. These can be brought
to the Convention in Olds where they
will be boxed and I will transport to
Brandon as I am traveling by 5* Wheel
Monies collected from the sale of the
craft items will go toward the cost of
convention and the sale of Christmas
Ornaments will support the Hoodless
Homestead. All provinces have been asked to
support FWIC in this manner.
Farm Safety Day Camps
There are still some funds available as start- up
money if branches are considering a Safety Day
Camp for their area. Contact the office for
information.
