F i f t y y e a rs l a t e r , d u r i n g the s e v e n t e e n t h t r i e n n i a l C o n f e r e n c e of A. C. W. W. a n o t h er C a n a d i a n , Dr. E l l e n McLean of N o v a S c o t i a , became the n i n t h P r e s i d e n t. D r . McLean l i v e d as a c h i l d at S t a n d a r d ( e a s t of S t r a t h m o r e ) . S e n a t o r M r s . M a r t h ( Joe) B i e l i s h s e r v e d as A. C. W. W. A r e a V ic P r e s i d e n t f o r Canada from 1980 to 1983, and h e r home i s W a r s p i t e , A l b e r t a. A c a p i t a l fund," The Mrs. A l f r e d Watt M e m o r i a l Fund" was s e t up. E a c h C a n a d i a n S o c i e t y of A s s o c i a t e d C o u n t r y Women of t h e W o r l d was i n s t r u c t e d to i n v e s t i t s ' s p o r t i o n , w i t h i n t e r e s t from t h i s fund c o v e r i n g expences f o r one d e l e g a t e f r o m each S o c i e t y to a t t e n d t h e A. C. W. W. Counci1 m e e t i n g the year p r i o r to t h e t r i e n n i a l c o n f e r e n c e. Two L a n d r o v e r s w e r e bought to t r a v e l to t h e out l y i n g a r e a s of L e s o t h o . " W i s h i n g W e l l s f o r Kenya." W i t h m a t c h i n g g r a n t s $ 32,000 was s e n t to K e n y a t o p u t w a t e r pumps i n many many v i l l a g e s. $ 4,000 was s e n t f o r sewing and k n i t t i n g m a c h i n e s for the M a h i l a S a m i t y Women's A s s o c i a t i o n in B a n g l a d e s h.
