PRESIDENT'S CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER. Last p r o v i n c i a l convention, a r e s o l u t i o n was passed which requested that A. W. I, a s s i s t battered women. I t i s g r a t i f y i n g to note so many branches have made contributions to s h e l t e r s - some made up k i t s , others h^ te given clothing, t o y s e t c . , o others monetary c o n t r i b u t i o n s. S t a t i s t i c s have shown that b a t t e r i n g i s common. Some s h e l t e r s are a v a i l a b l e in c i t i e s , but what happens i n r u r a l areas? Before we can take a stand and request f a c i l i t i e s or c o u n c i l l i n g or even new l e g i s l a t i o n , we must know the present situation'" Would you please discuss these questions at your next branch meeting, and send answers to the p r o v i n c i a l o f f i c e by January 10, 1985. I must have answers for January Council meeting. 1. Where i s the nearest shelter for battered spouses and t h e i r children? 2. How f a r i s i t ? 3. Is there adequate space? What i s the maximum capacity? 4. If you were a battered wife i n your area, where would you seek help and s h e l t e r ? Is t h i s s a t i s f a c t o r y ? If not, what would be better? 5. What has your branch done to h e l p battered women? 5. Other information you wish to give. I f there are s e v e r a l s o l u t i o n s or i d e a s , please record a l l . Other concerns: 1. Are you USING the s a f e t y bumber s t i c k e r s ? They are f r e e to you but must be used to be of value. 2. Safety programs are a v a i l a b l e through Dorothy W i l l i a m s . Her phone it i s on the calendar provided to every branch through the Farm Safety Braneh. Financial assistance i s a v a i l a b l e i f you apply to A. W. I, from the Safety Grant we receive from the Government. 3. St. John's Ambulance programs on home care and many other topics through M i l d r e d Luz.
