Pine Lake
Women's Institute
Submitted by: E. Marion Brown
Samaritan's Purse Christmas Boxes
was the program topic for the
Octobtt meeting of the Pine Lake
Womens Institute. Priscilla Riemer
told her story of personally
delivering the Canadian boxes to
Nicaragua in 2000 and later to Costa
Rica. The Christmas boxes are
stored in a warehouse in Calgary,
double checked for suitability and
sent by volunteers to the country of
destination
Although this project falls at the
Christmas season for Canadians,
they are presented to children at any
time of year. Ms. Riemer related how
these " miracle" boxes fit the
recipients. One destitute mother
received a box containing T- shirts,
sleepers, etc to clothe her naked
child Another little girl had her
wish granted when her box
contained a Barbie doll.
Ms. Riemer participated in an all
Mother and Daughter tour to Costa
Rica where three distributions were
completed each day and they never
ran out of the gift boxes. Tupper
ware boxes can be substituted for the
shoeboxes. These are put to good use
by the family and are long lasting.
Ms. Riemer encouraged her audience
to include toques, socks and mitts
for even hot countries have higher
elevations that require warm
clothing.
The Pine Lake ladies welcomed six
guests to share a potluck supper in
this " World Food Day" month and to
share in the special presentation.
Branch members will bring articles
for the Christmas Boxes next month
to fill two boxes, one for a boy and
one for a girl 5- 9 years.
Plans were finalized for
the
Constituency Conference
att
Ridgewood Saturday, October 28,
2006. Guest speaker, Barb Kingscot,
