Co- conveners Joyce Silbernagel and Leona Pnor thank L t Gov, Lois Hole A party atmosphere was in the air as the Pine Lake Women Institute members marked forty- eight years from the founding of the branch. Hostess Marion Brown reminisced with the reading of Noreen Olson's article. Getting Ready for WI. WI Day was an important annual event as members welcomed members to their homes. Birthday cake and ice cream were enjoyed. Health Convener. Isabelle Beck, presented What Your Doctor Wants to Tell You emphasizing the necessity of giving your doctor direct and accurate information. It is pertinent that the use of prescription drugs be clearly understood and taken as prescribed. Be cautious about herbal supplements and internet information unless devolved from a reputable source. Other health related activities included Cancer Canvas and ticket sales for the Parade of Playhouses to help the Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter. Kathleen Lawrence represented the branch by offering her time. A thank you was received from Operation Christmas Child for the boxes sent at Christmas. Branch members had recently attended the District III Workshop in Bashaw and the Kneehill Valley Constituency Conference in Trochu. As well as good tood, fun and fellowship, the members were impressed with the work accomplished by small, dedicated branches. The Kneehill Valley conference displayed 352 articles in handicrafts, home baking and canning, plants and photography from 43 members. Guest speakers at the Bashaw meeting included Mark Mac- Naughton, Stettler Agi Info Centre and District V Director. Blanche Cunningham. Blanche delighted her audience at both Pine Lake Women's Institute S u b m i t t e d by E. MARION BROWN meetings with memories of the 200 FWIC Convention in Lennoxville. Quebec Highlighting the Trochu meeting was th> presence and address given by Lieu tenant Governor of Alberta. Lois Hole Sixty- two visitors and WI members en joyed the presentation stressing the vita role of the arts ( music and libraries) a: well as the public school education which builds tolerance, curiosity anc creativity for our society Her honoui touched on her love of gardening. Sh< has written seventeen gardening book; and has recently presented a set to 30U oi Alberta's' libraries. The Pine Lake branch will support the Farmers' Resolution to exempt watei from the NAFTA agreement. The resolution will be forwarded to Wendy Holm Bowen Is., BC. Plans were made for the upcoming Red Deer Constituency Handicraft Display and Tea Saturday. April 24/ 04 2: 00- 4: 00 pm.
