Manlvn Wattenbarger— Japanese art of Paper Making Sandv McGrath— Red Deer Catholic Social Services. Mandate is to improve the quality of life of all people regardless of religion, race, gender, color or creed. Sandra Pierce— Read Lisa's journal of the tobacco industry in the Copan Calley, Honduras, a gift to her father, Percy, who loves cigars. Vanessa Elliott - Hiliary Diane Rodham Clinton Connie Morgan - Life Skills Program Instructor, Red Deer. The 15 hour parenting program was outlined. MINI REPORTS included: GMO versus non GMO/ Jane Stewart , Minister of Human Resources Development unaccountable spending/ Medicare/ Chief Justice Beverly McLachlin/ Y2000 British WI in the BUFF calendar/ Trans Canada Trails/ Literacy film BRANCH AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: AW1 Membership Dues: $ 15.00/ member ( PLW1 members pay $ 5.00) Fun time with one member in charge each month Secret Sisters names drawn for remembering birthdays and anniversaries Stocking Project continues with one dime for January, two for Feb., etc Heart Fund Card Party - 9 5 4 tables of whist with $ 340.00 donations. Evening presented a " FOUNDER'S DAY " display. The branch was also honoured later in the year for 25 years of service and volunteer work for the Heart & Stroke Foundation An engraved chrome bon bon dish was presented to the branch Quilted cushion top course— March 1/ 00 with Doris Warke as instructor to 7 participants Road Side Clean Up - April 29 with WI members and families participating. Cancer Canvas -$ 245.00 Children's Garden Club— Twenty one gardens were judged in early August, delayed by the tornado that struck the community July 14. 2000 at seven pm. A special competition for growing the largest pumpkin judged at the community Halloween party proclaimed Melissa Greening as winner with her 14 % lb. pumpkin. Trans Canada Trails - Branch expressed opposition to the proposal by sending a resolution stating our position to the AW1 resolution chairman W. I. Comer - The corner was again attractive with the usual flowers and the branch paying for the summer grass cutting. Coffee Party - Sixty- eight attended the annual event with $ 318 90 realized. Leotta Moore and Dorothy Calvert won the door prizes. Farmers' Market - Sponsored by PLWI at the Pine Lake BiLo for 13 Fridays from Jaune 9 - Sept. 1, 2000 74 tables were rented for an average of 5.7 tables per market. Branch made a profit of $ 320.00. One free stall for 2001 was given by draw to a 2000 market participant. Westerner Group of Five Competition - Won first prize of $ 15.00 Jelly Project - Kathleen Lawrence filled orders as they were received ( Sixteen sets of four plus 15 individual jars) Crossroads Ag. Fair - PLWI sponsored the handicraft section. A prize was presented to Phyllis Mangan HUB Horse Race Nite - A home made willow basket made by Marion Brown and filled with three jars of jelly was auctioned as the branch contribution.
