P I S E L A K E WOMEN'S I N S 11 n TE ( JCtflbj£ i • On October 10. 2000. ten Indies met at the Pine Lake ' Hub' Centre to celebrate World Eood Day A pot luck supper of ethnic food was enjoyed by all. Our regular meeting followed Ladies donated a bountiful variety of goods to be sent to the missions in East Africa Those who are busy making jelly reported some orders have already been received Pine Lake WI will donate a basket of jelly to the Hub' Horse Racing night which will be held on November 4 beginning at 7 p m at the Pine 1- ake ' Hub' Centre. Sandra Pierce shared with us a journal written by her daughter, Lisa. She told of the life style of people living in Copan Valley of Honduras and of the tobac-co industry which was established by the Spaniards as early as 1765. This thriving cigar industry is done basically by hand. Many long weeks of manual labor go into this industry before the cigars go to market. Pine Lake WI. ladies will fill two shoe boxes of goodies for Operation Christmas Child, which is a unique project of Christmas relief The project gives us an opportunity to reach out to children in desperate situations around the world. A shoe box packed with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and holiday favors helps us to share with thousands of children and their ftimilies the true meaning of Christmas PINE L A K E WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Ten members and one Morgan to their regular December meeting As a evrt. fied Life Skills Parent t . „ Program Instructor, M* Morgan outlined the 15- hour parenting program that she instrucU. The program emphasizes com mu meat ion skills, problem - November - The November meeting was called to order at 7 10 p. m. by President Kathleen Lawrence with 12 members present Sandra Pierce's birthday and Marilyn Waltenbarg-er's anniversary were recognized A tour of the Canadian Waste Management Facility in Red Deer is planned for the new year. Seven pumpkins, the final phase of the Children's Garden Club Competition, were on display at the Hallowe'en Party. They ranged in size for 5 ^ « lbs. To 14 K lbs. The winners were Melissa Greening 14 xh lbs., Mathew Greening 13 ¥ 4 lbs., and Michael Greening 12 % lbs. The " duties" lists for the Annual Family Christmas Supper on December 1 were given to members by Home Ec Convener Irma Lawrence. The report of the Nominations Committee was given by Marilyn Wattenbarger as follows: ( 1) New Director, Ella Sawyer, 12) Secretary, Marion Brown, 1 year, 13) Health and Home Ec Convener, Millie Munro. 3 years. ( 4) Environment Convener, Teressa Greening, 3 years, ( 5) International Affairs Convener, Isabelle Beck, 3 years, an ( 61 Sunshine Convener, Ella Sawyer. 1 year. A report of the Red Deer Centre Constituency Representatives meeting on October 30 was given by Kathleen Lawrence. At least four members will the Provincial Office Open House in Wetaskiwin on November 24. solving skills, understanding feelings of stress and the development of self esteem. The cost is $ 50 per person or $ 75 per couple. The branch will make the decision of sponsoring a parenting program in the new year. Alberta Women Institute's pins were presented to Vanessa Elliott. Teressa Greening. Faye Nicholson and Sandra Pierce Marion Brown, Kathleen 1- iwrenee. Marilyn Watten-burger and Don* Wurke were recognized for perfect attendance for 2000. To brighten the Christmas season, the following donations were made $ 25 The Pine Lake Women's Institute is pleaaed to be the Host Branch for the District 3 Workshop to be held March 15. 2001, in the Hub Community Hall, Pine Lake. Our members will each donate 1 M dozen cookies for the annual " Meals on Wheels" project in Red Deer. Marilyn Wattenbarger and Kathleen Lawrence will attend the annual meeting of the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Red Deer at which time the Pine Lake W. I. will be recognized for holding a Heart and Stroke Card Party for the past 25 years. Four brief " Fun Time" break, Irma Lawrence had each member reconstruct her dismantled garden. This was in the form of jigsaw puzzles made from large calendar pictures. to the Red Deer Aspen Heights School for needy families for Christmas and a Christmas basket of cookies and preserves for Kay Svederus who had a tractor accident in the fall. Each member donated 1 l/ z dozen cookies to the Constituency Project, " Meals on Wheels." Other donations included gifts of money to the AWI Office Fund and the FWIC Adelaide Hood-less Homestead Fund. The an n u. i. Family Christmas supper was held earlier in the month with an attendance of over 50 adults and children. A lovely turkey supper was enjoyed followed by a visit Marilyn Wattenbarger won a pair of garden gloves for having her garden put together first. For her Citizenship Program, Convener Vanessa Elliot gave a reading based on Hilary Clinton's commitment and belief that " We all have a commitment to given something of ourselves to our community." As an F. WLC. member, Marion Brown reported on her recent visit to Ottawa where she had the pleasure of being present at the unveiling of the " Famous Five" statue on the 18th of October which incidentally was the beginning of the week designated as " Canadian Citizenship Week." from Santa and games of bingo. Each winner calls the next game much to the delight of the children! Christmas greetings were sent to 20 past members of the Pine Lake W. I. The roll call was answered with " A Christmas Custom from Another Land." An exchange of Christmas gifts and cards brought season wishes to all The members are looking forward to a new and challenging 2001.
