P i n e L a k e Women's I n s t i t u t ue Women's Institutes are still relevant submitted by E. Marion Brown " Are Women's Institutes dinosaurs?" That was the question Constituency Convener Marilyn Wattenbarger presented to the members of the Pine Lake W. I. at their February meeting. In answer to her question, Mrs. Wattenbarger felt that both rural and urban women face many of the same problems. Women's Institutes can help solve these problems as they have over the past century. The solution may come in different forms or methods but Women's Institutes still provide education, fellowship, leadership and social services in a non- partisan and non- sectarian way. Greater effort must be made to communicate this message to our fast paced living world. One way to revitalize enthusiasm is by attending conferences and workshops. A n invitation is extended to all women to attend the District Three Workshop at Pine Lake on Thursday, March 12, 2001. The morning speaker will be Moriah Boyd from the Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter who will address, " Marital Relationships." The Federated Women's Institutes of Canada also are seeking answers to what women would like to see in a women's organization. In cooperation with the p r o v i n c i a l bodies, a r e v i t a l i z a t i o n discussion paper is being circulated to a l l Women's Institutes branch members and to all women who would like to partake in this needs assessment. Completed survey papers are to be returned to FWIC President Faye Mayberry and President- elect Margaret Yetnian for evaluation. Detailed preparation for the Feb. 24 quilted place mat workshop conducted by Doris Warke was finalized. Participants are asked to bring their own noon bag lunch. Further information can be obtained from Doris Warke at 886- 4108. The annual Heart Fund Card Party will be held at the HUB Community Centre, Pine Lake on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8 p. m. Receipts will be issued to all donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Kathleen Lawrence and Marion Brown reported on the Waste* Management F a c i l i t y Tour on January 23. The ladies were impressed with the unique departmental trucks for hauling various recyclables, baling system of cardboard and papers, reuse of recycled oil as a heating fuel and the maintenance of the fleet of trucks at the plant. Thank you letters were received from recipients. Kay Svederus and Marion Hewitt, of Christmas goodies. Notice was given of a presentation by Roger Epp on the Future of Rural Committees on March 21/ 01 at the Red Deer College.
