BRANCH AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES Cont'd.
Secret Sister names are drawn for remembering birthdays and anniversaries
Stocking Project continues with one dime for Jan., two for Feb., etc and allocated to the
three levels of Women's Institutes— AWI, FWIC, ACWW
Heart Fund Card Party ($ 295.00) and Cancer Canvas ($ 170.00)
Roadside Clean Up supported and grass cutting on " W. I. Corner" funded
Annual Coffee Party— The morning event was again presented to the community to enjoy
muffins and coffee cake over a cup of coffee and fellowship. Three men were welcomed. Tom
Nicholson was the lucky winner of the Dahlia plant and Emily Benedict from Balmoral won the
Thingamaboob key chain.
Children's Garden Club - Sponsored and judged six completed gardens. In addition the
branch co- sponsored a " container workshop" at which nine participants assembled nine
containers of flowers under the direction of Barb Curvollo of Parkland Nurseries. Gloria Beck of
Parkland Nurseries presented garden gloves and $ 10.00 gift certificate to Joanne Nicholson and
Jeffery Greening for their winning containers. Each child received a garden satchel complete
with tools as a gift from Community Savings. Red Deer at the wind up " garden party" August
28/ 07.
Crossroads Ag Fair— Sponsored Needlecraft Class of which Linda Holt was the winner.
Sponsored two children's classes in the garden section and awarded $ 15.00 prizes.
Donation of a basket of preserves to the annual HUB Race Nite
Red Deer Women's Emergency Shelter— Assembled $ 150.00 worth of supplies for a
" start up" basket instead of the Christmas Mug donation for the homeless
CONSTITUENCY SERVICES & ACTIVITIES
Red Deer Centre Constituency Handicraft Tea and Display— April 28, 2007 at the Red
Deer Museum. Doris Warke and Marilyn Wattenbarger participated in the judging day and
represented the branch on April 28. Pine Lake took third place in the branch standings. A quilt
made by Doris Warke was placed on the " outstanding" table
Constituency Conference— October 13, 2007 hosted by Leslieville and Lacombe W. I.
branches. Six members attended the daylong meeting with the theme, " Home Ec, and Social
services" A. Lillie Clutton was honoured in the Remembrance Service.
Three members supported the Hillsdown branch at their annual May 26t h tea and six Pine
Lake members attended the Balmoral annual Christmas noon turkey dinner and afternoon of
games and cards on Thursday, December 6, 2007.
