PINE L A K E WOMEN'S
INSTITUTE
Our first meeting after a
busy summer was held at
Marilyn Wattenberger's
home on September 12,
2000, with ten members
and one visitor present.
Our guest speaker, Sandy
McGrath, from Catholic
Social Services, explained
the purpose and activities
of their social service
agency. The mandate of
this organization is to
improve the quality of life
for persons of all faiths and
cultures by serving their
social, emotional, intellectual,
physical and spiritual
needs. A staff of 700 persons
plus 1500 volunteers
offer up to 119 programs to
help as many as 60,000 persons
per year in Canada.
People in need, regardless
of religion, race, gender,
ethnic origin, color or creed
can receive help.
The children in the W. I.
sponsored garden club
worked hard and many
were recognized at the
club's wind up party in
September with the receiving
of first, second and
third place ribbons. Many
thanks goes to Rose Douglas
who had the task of
judging some 21 gardens.
A job well done.
The farmer's market
operated every Friday
afternoon at the Bi- Lo service
station during the
summer months. Thanks
to everyone for their help
and support.
Our Australian pen pals
w i l l be remembered once
again with a Christmas
greeting from all.
Donations for the Christmas
shoe box project and
for Betty Kilgour of Three
H i l l s who has an ongoing
project of sending goods to
the missions in Kilangala
East Africa are being
accepted.
The October 10 meeting
w i l l be a pot luck supper in
commemoration of World
Food Day. Ladies bring an
ethnic dish to be shared bv
all.
