P I N E L A K E W. I. D o i n g Whatever It Takes, the theme under which volunteers carry out their duties at Mich-ener Services was outlined by Carmen Kostiuk. E l l a Sawyer, Pine Lake W. I. branch Social Services convener, introduced Carmen who co- ordinates the volunteer services for the 382 clients at Michen-er Centre, Red Deer. 250 volunteers help accomplish the extensive activities of recreation and outreach under such programs as Ventures program, Volunteer Friends, Camp L . G . Barnes program, Smiley's Club and F i r s t Nation's program. Volunteers aim to help the " community" to achieve their self interests and dreams. A n environment of happy independence is fulfilled under home staff who are assisted with workers i n physiology, rehabilitation, and pastoral care. Ms. Kostiuk expressed her thanks to all the Pine Lake members who have supported the Michener Services, especially the craft program of Beaver H a l l , by presenting each with a thank- you gift. The branch purchased a cookbook produced by Michener Services under pastoral care to be used as a gift for the June Coffee Party. Twenty- three participants have registered for the Pine Lake Garden Club in the four categories. Seeds and " Joker, Poker" Pansy bedding plants have been distributed to all registrants. Seven members attended the Constituency Handicraft Display and Tea with Kathleen Lawrence as Tea Pourer. W. I. members from the seven branches supported the annual event and enjoyed the outstanding display of handicraft done by the members. Five members attended the annual Constituency Conference under the direction of Constituency Convener M a r i l y n Wattenbarger. The day long conference was highlighted with an address by Don Bester on " Water Usage," a presentation of the " Do's and Don'ts of Photography" by Diane Lewis and an impressive Memorial Service remembering our past members. Marion Brown and Doris Northey gave an update on Safety C i t y and the F a rm Safety Program. Ridgewood W. I. placed first in the Handicraft Competition w i t h a standing of 5.4. Pine Lake had three outstanding articles on the Outstanding Table. Marcella Basco of Leslieville W. I. was elected as Constituency Convener for the next three-year term. Marion Younker cf Balmoral W. I. will serve as Constituency Citizenship and Legislation convener. AWI Resolutions were discussed for agreement for delegate, Marilyn Wat-tenbarger's discretion for voting privileges. Plans were made for the upcoming Coffee Party, on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, from 9 to 11 a. m. The new season for the Farmers' Market w i l l run from 3: 00 to- 5: 30 p. m. commencing on Friday, June 14, 2002, and closing on August 30, 2002, Congratulations were extended to M i l l i e M u n ro who was recently honoured at a community party. The violent spring snowstorm prompted the members to return to their homes in haste!
