Marcella Bacso
was the special
guest welcomed
to the
Pine Lake
Womens Institute by President Doris
Warke. Ms. Bacso brought timely information
to the members with reminders of the
monthly reports to AWI President- Elect
Phyllis Kosik and Constituency Convener
Marcella Bucso and of special 2003 dates
for the upcoming year. The District 111
Conference will be held March 30, 2003, at
Bashaw, Alberta; the Provincial Convention
June 2 - 5, 2003, at Camrose, Alberta;
the Federated Women's Institutes Convention
June fJA - 29, 2003, at Lennoxville,
Quebec. Constituency dues will be raised
from $ 5 to $ 10 for the upcoming year.
Pine l- iik*- Women's Institute is supporting
the Lorgot. Kenya, project and the
Stocking Money of $ 4.60 from each member
was donated to this cause at the October
meeting. The total goal is $ 7,000 to be
raised by all Associate Members of the
Associated Women of the World.
2003 is the International Year of Fresh
Water.
Members contributed items to the Shoe
Box Project by bringing articles for a boy
and a girl between the ages of six and nine
years. The boxes will be completed for the
November deadline.
Pine Laku W. I. members will again contribute
to the Cookie Plates for the Meal
on Wheels. Cookies will be brought to the
December meeting.
The Ganlen Club members will have
their cards, bookmarks and pictures using
pressed parties displayed at the annual
Halloween party. Each participant will be
recognized with an award.
The 2003 Pine Luke Farmers' Market
will again be munaged by the Pine Lake
Women's Institute. Scott Fraser has
offered to m a ke a new sign.
The branch will support the annual community
Race Night by donating four jars of
jelly in a willow basket made by Bruce
Elliott.
Lillie Clutton and Shirley Schalin will be
remembered with a good cheer'' message.
Doris Warke provided the members with
fun as they searched for " Ears to Autumn
Word Find."
Volunteer hours were tablulated.
November
Pine Lake Women's Institute continues
to extend a Helping Hand as the year 2003
draws to a close. Garden club members
received participation awards assembled
and presented by President Doris Warke;
Shoe Boxes were filled and taken to the
Innisfail collection depot by Isabelle Beck
and Faye Nicholson; Jelly donation basket
was assembled by Kathleen Lawrence and
donated to the HUB Community Centre;
and five afghan blankets knit by Kathleen
Lawrence were gratefully received by the
Central Alberta Women's Shelter.
This theme will continue as members
prepare cookies for the Meals on Wheels
program and Fill a Mug that will provide a
hot drink for someone who is homeless.
A donation of $ 50 will be sent to the
Alberta Women's Institutes Office Fund.
Pen friends in Haden, Australia will be
remembered with a Calendar. Kathleen
Lawrence has made five varieties of jams
and jellies for sale, much of which has been
purchased by regular customers.
Detailed plans were drawn up for the
annual Family Christmas supper, Friday,
December 6, 2003.
Branch Convener of Citizenship and
Legislation, Kathleen Lawrence, presented
her minute report in question form as she
asked, " Do you know your Canada?" The
answers to the 15 questions provided a
learning experience.
Fun Time was provided by Marilyn Wattenbarger
who presented a " Christmas
Bingo." People were matched with action
categories.
