Pine Lake Women's Institute met
February and followed the St.
Valentine theme. Thought for the
month, " A name engraved on hearts
will oudast those engraved in
marble." Handicraft Conveners
Doris Warke, and Teressa Greening
engaged the members in making
heart shaped pot pouri sachets from
rice. This frees women from the
arduous labour of walking
kilometres to the nearest mechanical
grinder for preparing staple food.
There are 23 chapters of EWB with
more that 10,000 members across
Canada.
Plans were formulated to celebrate
the 50th branch anniversary on
Saturday, April 15, 2006. Members
of the constituency, past members,
AWI executive members, husbands
and family members are to be
invited to celebrate the special
occasion.
Upcoming W. L events include the
Heart Fund Card Party Saturday,
attractive paper doilies and ribbon.
Members added poems, quizzes and
stories for the Valentine meeting.
Millie Munro received a special
Valentine telephone call from her
daughter, Linda, who is holidaying
in Australia.
Marion Brown, International
Convener, explained the work of
Engineers Without Borders ( EWB)
a volunteer group out of the
University of Alberta. Danny
Howard, engineering student,
became involved in the program and
spent the summer of 2005 in Ghana
designing a diesel powered grinder
to grind maize, hull nuts and process
February 25 at 8: 00 pm at the HUB
