March is Nutrition
Month, a fitting topic chosen
by Millie Munro,
Branch Health Convener.
Good nutrition helps prevent
cancer, diabetes and
heart disease. Five servings
of vegetables and fruit a day
will help keep cholesterol
levels manageable.
Moderation is the key.
Avoid excess salt, alcohol
and exercise regularly. Two
pamphlets - " Cholesterol"
and " Where is the Fat in
your Diet?" gave the members
more information.
Marion Brown presented
a five minute video on the
first " gator" draw by the
Kiwanis Safety City in mid
February. The first winner
of six draws was Peavey
Industries. They donated
the children's gator back to
the Safety City Committee.
Tickets sell for $ 85 ( cost of
inputs for one acre of land
in the GROW program) of
which a receipt is issued for
a $ 65 donation. A l l tickets
remain in the barrel for the
duration of the draws.
President Doris Warke
welcomed the members
with the reading. Yes, I'm
Tired,. after which the Mary
Stewart Collect was repeated.
Three members were
extended birthday greetings.
The Heart Fund card
party attracted six and one
half tables of whist. All
donations are forwarded to
the Heart and Stroke
Foundation. Food and prize
costs are donated by the Pine
Lake Women's Institute.
Marion Brown reported
that the Constituency
Secretary's Report,
Constituency Branch
History and the PLWI
Branch History have been
completed.
Marion Brown and Doris
Warke attended the 55th
Ridgewood W. I.
Anniversary for a pleasant
afternoon. Displays of
branch activities and hand
crafted quilts drew special
interest.
Correspondence included
the provincial newsletter
with information regarding
AWI Changes to Policy and
Procedure Manual,
Elections, Convention
2002, Registration and
A c c o m m o d a t i o n .
Resolutions to be voted
upon at the convention were
read and briefly discussed.
PLWI will again sponsor
a community garden club.
A committee of Marion
Brown, Kathleen Lawrence,
Faye Nicholson and Doris
Warke will present plans for
2002 at the next meeting.
Doris Warke will pursue
the idea of a Jr. Craft Day.
Alberta W. I. is twinned
with • Newfoundland and
Labrador W. I. Marion
Brown presented the name
of Mrs. Martha Butt of
Twillingate, Newfoundland
as a pen pal link.

of the District III Workshop
at Ponoka, March 21;

Handicraft Display and Tea
March 22 ; Kneehill Valley
WI Constituency Meeting
April 6 in the Huxley Hall.
