S E V E N T E E N T H A N N U A L C O N V E N T I ON II Wednesday evening- the delegates and visitors were guests of the management of the Capitol Theatre, when George A r l i s s appeared in " A M i l l i o n a i r e , ' 1 a most delightful performance, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. F o l l o w i n g the play the ladies adjourned to the M a c D o n a l d Hotel where they were guests of the Edmonton Women's Institute. A most charming musical program was presented, the artists participating being Mrs. M . W . Dawson, soloist, accompanied by Miss Leona Huffman, and Miss Selma Myers, v i o l i n i s t. Delectable refreshments completed a most enjoyable evening. Thursday Morning, May 21st W i t h M r s . M o n t g o m e r y and Mrs. W . R. Roberts. D i r e c t o r District No. 1, presiding, the meeting opened at 9 o'clock w i t h assembly singing. The first order of business was the report of the special finance committee, appointed by the president to b r i n g in recommendations for reducing the A . W . I , budget for the coming year. The committee, consisting of M r s. E. R. M o r l e y . Verdant V a l l e y ; Mrs. E. E. Bird. Aldersyde, and Mrs. W . A . Brown, Paradise Valley, presented the following suggestions: No. 1. Federated Officers expenses be paid out of federated funds. As this iii the custom except in instances where officers of the F. W. I. C. are invited as special guests, this recommendation was tabled on motion of Mrs. B e l l and M r s . Gillespie. No. 2. Sustenance allowance be exchanged for expense accounts for all member? of the . Council. Moved by Mrs. M o r l e y and Mrs. L e a v i t t that sustenance allowance remain as at present. Carried. X o . 3. That Business Secretary- Treasurer's bond be reduced to $ 3000.00. As the Council had already arranged tor a bond i n accordance with the money on hand, this suggestion was tabled on motion of M r s . Grevctt and Mrs. W a l k e r . No. 4. That the P r o v i n c i a l organization pay the official delegate's fare to ; hc convention and the branch pay the return fare. Adoption moved by M r s . B e l l ; seconded by M r s . Gillespie and carried. No. 5. That there be a temporary reduction in federated fees. Moved by M r - . Leavitt. seconded by M r s . Durstan that this matter be left to the C o u n c i l . Carried. No. 6. That printed report of convention be eliminated. Moved by M r s . T. L. Montgomery, seconded by Mrs. , that this recommendation be adopted. Lost. Moved by M r s . Grevett and M r s . Scott that Annual Report be printed as heretofore. Carried. No. 7. That persona] representation at the C. N. E. be dispensed with for the present. As the Council had already decided to discontinue the A . W . I , separate exhibit and to j o i n the other provinces in one large display, it was moved by M r s . M a r t i n , seconded by Mrs. M i l l e r , that the suggestion be tabled and the action of the Council be sustained. Carried. The report of the committee on T h e League of Nations was given by the convener, M r s . J . N . Beaubier, and appears on page 60.
