S E V E N T E E N T H A N N U A L C O N V E N T I ON 85 - that none of our efforts to establish l i b r a r y service w i l l overlook the urgency of the school l i b r a r y problem, and I would ask for the M i n i s t e r of Education the whole- hearted support of the community in any step that he desires to take when the proper time comes in the matter of libraries in our schools. REPORT OF T H E A L B E R T A WOMEN'S INSTITUTE GIRLS* CLUBS Miss Minnie Tyler, Alliance, Secretary. The E l e v e n t h A n n u a l Convention of the A l b e r t a Women's Institute G i r l s' Clubs was held at St. Joseph's College, Edmonton, J u l y 23, 24, 25 and 26. under the supervision of M r s . J . M a c g r e g o r S m i t h . R e g i s t r a t i o n took place at two o ' c l o c k Thursday, J u l y 26th, in the office of St. Joseph's College, Miss Minnie T y l e r and Miss Margaret Hudson being i n charge. Sixty delegates and visitors were present. F o l l o w i n g registration the girls assembled in general meeting, the president, Miss Margaret Hudson, presiding. Greetings f r om the Edmonton branch of the W . I. were extended by letter. Mrs. Wood, the new supervisor of the A . W . I . G . C . , was introduced. She was v e r y enthusiastic over her new position and hoped to lend a helping hand wherever possible. The girls were divided into companies and patrols. The committees on Resolutions and Nominations were chosen, . he former was headed by Miss E v e l y n Connier, assisted by Miss Jean Kidney and Miss E l s i e Gerwin. Miss Connie Clemments, Miss Mary Seright and Miss Maude McKenzie were chosen members of the latter committee. F o l l o w i n g the meeting the girls were entertained to tea at Government House, His Honor L i e u t . - G o v e r n or W a l s h and Mrs. W a l s h being present. T H U R S D A Y E V E N I N G , J U L Y 23rd Thursday evening the girls held their annual masquerade ball and a very enjoyable time was had. The prizes were awarded as f o l l o w s : First prize, prettiest. Florence B i e r s t a , R a i n b o w ; first prize, humorous, Connie Clemments, Gentleman. The girls concluded the evening by a sing- song and staging of many clever stunts. F R I D A Y " M O R N I N G S E S S I O N , J U L Y 24th The session opened in the usual way by s i n g i n g 0 Canada followed by the Club Code. The Secretary read the report of the 1930 Convention which was adopted as read. The president reported that the A . W . L G . C . membership was steadily increasing. After much discussion it was decided to publish a magazine containing the convention report, the staff being: Editor, Jean Blewett Anderson, L e t h b n d g e ; a d v e r t i s i n g manager, Maude M c K e n z i e , Sedge-w i c k ; c i r c u l a t i o n manager, Mabel M o r g a n , Three H i l l s ; sports editor, D o r o t hy Chappel, W e t a s k i w i n ; humorous editor, M i l d r e d Ross, W a r n e r ; social editor, M a r i e Rogers, Lougheed. Each club is responsible for at least one article for the magazine. Miss Gertrude Flood, Director of D i s t r i c t No. 2, read her report which was adopted. Miss M a r y M o r r i s o n read a report for District No. 3. which was adopted as read. Miss Mildred Ross read the report of D i s t r i c t No. 4 i n the absence of the director, Miss D e l i a Kosek. This report was also adopted. These reports brought up much discussion regarding the work the clubs were doing i n the province. A F T E R N O O N S E S S I O N , J U L Y 24th F r om 1 to 1.30 D i s t r i c t s 2, 3 and 4 met and appointed District Directors as f o l l o w s : District N o . 2, E v e l y n Connier, J a s p e r ; District No. 3, V e r a M c - L e l l a n , M e r n a ; D i s t r i c t No. 4, L i l y Sahlen, Granum.
