A L B E R T A W O M E N ' S I N S T I T U T ES At 2 o'clock the g i r l s were entertained by the management of the Rialto Theatre to a talkie, " The Two Gunmen." After this they assembled in patrols and went on a shopping tour with their leaders. E V E N I N G S E S S I O N , J U L Y 24th B r o t h e r Rogation of St. Joseph's College, spoke to the girls of Advancement in Life and that we should profit by heroes of bygone days. Mrs. Haynes. who is interested in amateur dramatics, gave a v e r y - i n t e r e s t i n g lecture on the above and presented a play, " H o w He L i e d to H e r H u s b a n d . " The evening was ended by the Public Speaking Contest, won by Miss Lenora Trace of Sedgewick. She spoke on " Resolved, that the Government should set a minimum wage for men and women." Other contenders were, L i ly Sahlen. Garden P r a i r i e ; J u l i a Malloy, Lougheed; Elsie Gerwin, Hardisty, and Elsie Bright, Hardisty. M O R N I N G S E S S I O N , J U L Y 25th M r s . Rodell of W e t a s k i w i n announced that she was offering a cup for short story w r i t i n g that w i l l be open for competition each year. The winner receives a club pin for herself. The story is to be not more than 5000 words and must be sent to the judges not later than May 1st, 1932. There must be at least five contenders. Four songs were chosen to be sung at club meetings as suggested by Mrs. W o o d : 1. O Canada; 2, Maple Leaf Forever; 3, God Save the K i n g ; 4, A u l d Lang Sync. S A T U R D A Y A F T E R N O O N . J U L Y 25th Discussion re S c h o l a r s h i p : Jean Anderson reports failure of clubs support. It was decided we give this scholarship for 1932, a l l dues to be sent in before January 1st, 1932. Miss E v e l y n Connier reported for Resolutions Committee. The following resolution was adopted: We. the A l b e r t a Women's Institute G i r l s ' Clubs, met in convention at Edmonton, resolve that letters of thanks be sent to those who made our convention such a success. A motion was brought before the house that we hold conventions and district camps a l t e r n a t i n g y e a r l y ; tabled. It was decided to adopt programme Mrs. W o o d compiled, also the badge system. The nominating committee then reported and the election of officers took place. The personnel is as follows: President, Margaret Hudson; vice- president. Maude M c K e n z i e ; secretary-treasurer, M a r y M o r r i s o n ; district directors, L i l y Sahlen, V e r a M c L e l l a n and E v e l v n Connier. N O T I C E S O F M O T I ON 1. Moved by E l n a Gibb, seconded by D o r o t h y Chappel. that the A . W . I . G . C. h o l d annual meetings in the month of September. Carried. 2. That club reports be sent to District Directors, W . I. Constituency Convener of Girls' Clubs, P r o v i n c i a l Supervisor and W. I. G. C. P u b l i c i t y Convener. 3. That the constitution be changed to provide for j u n i o r clubs f r om the ages of 6 to 14 years. 4. That the constitution be changed to provide for senior clubs from the ages over 14 years.
