I , business affairs by the delegates. Definite action was deferred until report of financial committee was presented. In the absence of M r s . M a u r i c e Gossip, Convener of the Standing Committee of Household Economics, her report was read by Mrs. A . H . Rogers, and appears on page 46 of this report, Subjects receiving special attention under the direction of this committee were General S a n i t a t i o n , Home Management, Treatment of walls and floors, besides a large number of demonstrations of various home industries. A t this time the Convention was favored with special music by Mrs. W a l k e r , soloist, accompanied by M r s . F . Smith, w h i c h was greatly enjoyed. R e v i e w i n g the progress of the A l b e r t a Women's Institutes G i r l s ' Clubs d u r i n g her tenure of office as supervisor, M r s . J . Macgregor S m i t h mentioned the winning team who represented us at the C . N . E . in T o r o n t o in 1928, the p u b l i c a t i o n of a magazine f o l l o w i n g the 1929 and 1930 conventions, and a scholarship fund of $ 100.00 to be awarded in household science. See page 64 for report in full. The four District Directors reported the activities in their respective districts as f o l l o w s : District No. 1, M r s . W . R. Roberts, S e x s m i t h ; District No. 2, M r s . W . C. Short, Edmonton; District No. 3, Mrs. J. P. Ferguson, Trochu, and D i s t r i c t No. 4, M r s . F . C. A l c o c k , ' Champion. These reports in f u l l may be found on pages 31 to 34. Wednesday Afternoon, May 20th The afternoon meeting opened at 1.30 with assembly singing, w i t h Mrs. M o n t g o m e r y and M r s . A l c o c k presiding. The time u n t i l 3.30 o'clock was given to reports and greetings, each speaker c o n t r i b u t i n g to the interest and information of the assembly. M r s . G. M . Gibson, Drumheller, gave a most comprehensive report as Convener of Education and Better [ Schools, w i t h an interesting account of the many educational activities engaged in by the Women's Institutes throughout the province, including a study of teacher and parent problems. The report appears on page 36. On behalf of the U n i v e r s i t y of A l b e r t a , Dean W. A . R. K e r r , of the F a c u l t y of A r t s and Sciences, brought cordial greetings from that educational i n s t i t u t i o n . In the course of his remarks Dean K e r r said that the only formal standard that the U n i v e r s i t y can set for the students is that of intellectual equipment; there is no way of i m p r o v i n g a character standard over that of knowledge; he urged the assistance of the Women's Institutes in r e c r u i t i ng o n l y the " moral cream" of the youth of the province to come to the U n i v e r s i ty for higher study. Accommodations are limited and many applications have to be declined. # M r s . A . PI. W a r r , Waskatenau, President of the U . F . W . A . , brought cordial greetings from the sister organization, stressing the fact that b o t h are doing a l l they can to aid the people of the province in a constructive way. Greetings from the Red Cross Society were presented by Mrs. C. B . Waagen, who declared that this organization is one of the greatest promoters of peace existant in the w o r l d today, and g r a t e f u l l y expressed appreciation of the continued and generous assistance given towards its maintainance by the A l b e r t a Women's Institute.
