HISTORY SUPPLEMENT OF THE ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTE strong. In this exchange of visits they are very aware of the truth of the Club- Women's Creed, " In the big things of life we are one". A. W. I. CONVENTION— UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA, EDMONTON, MAY 23- 26, 1961 THEME: KNOWLEDGE, UNDERSTANDING, ACTION PRESIDENT: MRS. W. R. FORD WORKSHOPS: Mr. Glen Eyford Mr. Eyford conducted a Workshop for Constituency Conveners and Chairman of Standing Committees. Topics included: Theory and methods Finances Publicity and Public Relations Conference Planning Communications in Large Organizations Discussions included: Getting and Keeping Members Program planning Leadership Principles and mechanics Use of films and film strips in program planning REPORT OF A. W. I. INDIAN STUDY: A. W. I. Committee consisting of Mrs. J. R. Graham, Ponoka, Chairman; Mrs. Grace Skelding, Fort MacLeod and Mrs. Ann Bartlett, Wide Water. PROBLEMS: The need of hostels in cities where Indians can find reasonable priced lodging. Same as ours — Food, Clothing, Health, Shelter and Education. As much as possible the Indians must be given the same rights and responsibilities as the whites. We must all show tolerance and patience. The Indian must not be hurried or pushed, but shown by the " kindness of heart". RESOLUTIONS: carried at the Convention 1. That the A. W. I, request the Provincial Government to make the age requirements for admission to school uniform throughout the Province. 2. That the Provincial Government improve the facilities for the teaching of Home Economics at the University of Alberta. 3. That any motion involving A. W. I, funds require a two- thirds majority of voting delegates. l l
